To buy, or not to buy?

Hi everyone.

So I have the opportunity to purchase an unlocked US variant 64 GB V30, with a manufacture date of February 13, 2018. With reviews for the S9/S9+ being meh so far, should I go for the V30, or should I wait from the upcoming "Judy" device, with the upgraded processor, screen, and stereo speakers? Since I stream my music through headphones, though, I wonder if the upcoming phone will have the same quad DAC as the V30? Also, I'm not all that impressed with what I see from the Android P developer preview, so I figure what do I have to lose? I'm currently on 8.1 on my Nexus 6P, which Google has officially stopped support for (I didn't even get the February patch), and I'm quite bored with it, honestly. Should I go for it, or wait?

Just FYI, both the February and March patches are available for the 6P - https://developers.google.com/android/ota and scroll down to "angler". (You'll have to sideload them - instructions are at the top of the page.)

Oh, yes, you have to agree to the notice before you can see the rest of the page.

Just wait for "Judy". Regular V30/s won't get camera update until September.

845 chipset is more efficient than 835. Not sure about DAC since there no review.

You can always wait for better. I do have the V30+ and I have very few complaints. I'd buy it again today.

Not sure out of the box. Phone upgraded to oreo the day I got it. I also installed a few apps, nothing huge, and right now it says 17 gb of 64 used.

This is my issue as well. I currently have the LG G6 and I am looking to get rid of this phone and upgrade. There are some good deals on the S9/S9 plus out, but so far the phone(s) seem to be not so great according to some reviews. I have seen nothing but praise on the LG V30 however.

That was my issue as well. Wasn't that impressed with the S9's,and I have had a G4, and G5, and really like LG's software. It's hard to get away from the Samsung hype machine, but if you can do it, the V30 is an awesome choice. I was with a family member last weekend, and this weekend. One had an S8, wasn't all that impressed with the camera, and the other had a Note 8, which seemed to take nicer pics, but wasn't really any better than my V30. The screen on the V30 was comparable to the Note 8, as far as clarity and color, as well.
I took advantage of the $300 trade in AT&T is doing on the V30. No new line or new Directv service needed. That pretty much brings the price a V30 down to $449. That is a no brainer, for a phone that costs quite a bit less than a Galaxy, and is just as good in my opinion.

Why not try going for the LG V30S? Judy is not out yet so we can't tell its going to be good phone but the V30 is proven and 2 gigs of extra RAM isn't too bad.

I agree. Honestly though, with the update the V30 is essentially the V30 q thin without the added ram and storage. Probably at a nice savings too. As far as the G7 AKA Judy... I really feel like the V line has taken the rains as LGs flagship. The last 2 iterations of V phones have outshined the G line.

Anyway I'm rambling. I'd grab the V30 or V30q 😁

@girl_Interrupted did you end up buying the V30? :)

Not yet, lol. I'm just waiting for the price to drop a little bit before going ahead. I've kept going back and forth between it and the S9+, but the quad DAC is hard to pass up. I just wish I knew what to expect with battery life. I'd be going from 3450 mAh on this Nexus 6P to 3300. Although, I am mostly on Wi-Fi, and I keep screen brightness at about 15% indoors. I also use AMOLED wallpaper and AMOLED or dark themes in apps where possible. I definitely need great standby and reception.

You won't need to worry about battery in the V30

I can definitely understand what you're saying - the V30 is a tad expensive and waiting for the price to drop is a great idea! Are you buying it outright? I've heard good things about its battery life! A friend of mine has the V30 and is an avid gamer/power user and I've heard no complaints from him about it! :) Keep us posted!

Indeed, I'll be buying an unlocked phone, outright. They seem to be periodically replenishing stock on B&H, so I'll be going that route. I just hope I don't wait so long I end up with a refurbished device, lol.

Going unlocked is a great idea! I may do that, myself. I think you'll be good for a while! :) I bet there are lots of new V30's out there! But I know what you mean about not wanting to wait too long!
