To Factory reset or not to Factory reset? #lillipop

I have an M8, updated to lollipop, and found it running a bit slower in some regards. I read up on this issue, and people are taking about a factory reset on their phones. Should I do this, and what is the process?

First try clearing system cache - boot to recovery and one of the choices will be to wipe system cache. That doesn't delete any of your data.

If you're going to do a factory reset, back up first - you lose all your downloaded apps, messages, etc. See Backing up an Android Phone.
