Here in Denver, 4G is not live yet, however, in some areas of downtown and the surrounding areas, i can pick up a stable 4G signal to play with from time to time.

What i'm wondering is, for those of you that have 4G officially, was 4G up in your area before it went live? Essentially what i'm trying to figure out is, by my house.. there is no 4G, i have to go to downtown denver to get it. I'm wondering if when they flip the switch here if that means that only the downtown area will get it, since thats the only place i can pick it up now... or if when its flipped to live, if my area might be covered. So did your 4G coverage area expand when they went official, or did they just say we're live now.. and you only get 4G where you were able to get it before it was official?

just curious!

4G isn't live here yet but I am getting signals here and there from surrounding cities. When Sprint announces a city as having 4G the city is usually "blanketed" with a signal. If it's not official in your city yet, I wouldn't write off getting it at your house.

It'll be live here in Tampa next week on Oct 5th...looking forward to it!

I'm in the Twin Cities and I can say without a doubt there is no blanketing. Coverage is spotty and unreliable. You occasionally get a signal but if you move a block, it drops. I expected that when they turned 4G on, coverage would be absolutely rock solid across the metro area. You could move around and the 4G would be there delivering connectivity to your phone. I expected to be able to listen to streaming music with Rhapsody, Slacker, Pandora, Last.fm and they would just work. As a matter of fact, streaming music is almost unusable because the signal drops and the apps don't seamlessly continue to play the same song using the 3G that kicks in when 4G drops. You'd think that they could buffer the track to prevent this, but apparently that is beyond the possible. I'm really disappointed in Sprint over the whole 4G thing. I'm willing to give them a few more months to fill in coverage, but if it doesn't improve, I will have to consider alternatives.

I live in Apopka about 12 miles north of the downtown Orlando FL area and Sprint has installed 4G in my residential neighborhood.

The problem I am having is that although the "tower" is only about 1/2 mile away I am not getting good reception. I also get lousy 3G reception. Sprint it currently troubleshooting this and indicated that I should be getting a strong signal for both even inside my concrete block house.

I put tower in quotes because it is an antenna mounted on the top of a large concrete power line poll. I appears to be a white rod shaped device about 4 feet tall. If I get a chance I will take and post a photo.
