tones for messages

How do I assign different tone for my contacts? have a samsung 9s

Use a different app for SMS. The Android Messages app allows this as does Textra. There's another thread on this somewhere.

The custom feature for text tones was an Oreo update issue. My S8 Plus lost it too when it updated to Oreo. I called Samsung when I got my s9 and they said they'd put in a ticket but who knows how long that will take to get enough complaints to patch it.

Also, use a third party app and it will work.
