Tones going back to default by themselves

Re: FIX

Helped a buddy out last night with the same issue. Trace it back to the app "Sound Profile." Upon removing the app, problem solved. Easier directions than my last post!!!

I'm new to Android. My Palm Centro died and I bought a Motorola DROID 4 because it has a real keyboard. I'm so frustrated that I'm thinking of returning it within the allowed period. Maybe I should get a Blackberry or an iPhone? Having invested much too much time getting basic functions to work, I'd like to try solving the changing tone problem before giving up.

The default function to sound a notification for a calendar meeting didn't work. I searched and found Calendar Event Reminder, which appears to work as advertised. But this morning it sounded an unfamiliar tone instead of the one I selected, which worked yesterday. This appears to be the same problem that others have reported in this thread.

From my limited experience, it appears that the default apps and built-in function in the Android are faulty. I can't get the functionality I had with a Palm Pilot! It seems that the general solution is to find an app that does the job right. In this thread and related ones, I've seen a few apps mentioned. The one getting the most positive feedback is Ringtone Manager Pro. I thought I'd ask for advice before giving it a try.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have Motorola Droid 4 with jelly bean. My ringtones and notification sounds reset to default as well as my playlists deleting automatically every time I mount the SD card, turn the phone completely off or totally kill the battery. Apparently this problem is not limited to any one version of Android or any one specific action. I did try a couple of things today that might fix the issue though. I will get back to you shortly with my results.

The ringtone and notification sound resets were annoying but the playlists deleting was burnin my biscuits BIG TIME!!! I just optimized the phone with the "one touch optimizer" app and backed up all my playlists with the "playlist backup" app. My battery has died and I turned the phone off once it charged just to test it out. The tones, sounds and playlists are all fully intact. This should help some, if not all of the Android devices fix this nasty issue.

What worked for me: creating the Contact again then changing the ringtone for that person. I've stopped guessing why something works :-) Phones are like pets... Temperamental and often frustrating but nice to have. Lol

In following those instructions, I just now realized that there are two places to set your notification sound. I kept changing the sound in 'settings' 'sounds' and then there is another one set to 'default' in 'messaging' 'settings'! YAY! Finally think this is the solution. It was driving me crazy too.

DUH! How did I not think of that! "hillemary" you are a genius and my new best friend! Thank you so much! Thats probably what most people will need to do to fix it, and its the easiest fix compared to other ridiculous crap I've read the last 20 mintues trying to fix it. I can't explain how great it is to hear a new frickin sound when I get a text now. Thanks again!

Welcome to the forums!

I'd suggest putting your ringtones on the internal memory rather than the SD card (rather than trying to solve your issue, which will be more complicated).

Put them on the internal memory. They will reset anytime that the SD card gets unmounted.

Apparently this has something to do with the checking for overflow of SMS for deletion. Under Messaging -> Settings you can disable the "Delete Old Messages" option and it should fix that.

I know this is an old thread, but recently I've been experiencing my wallpaper changing back to standard, and ring tones doing the same thing, and ringtones not completing when I get a message or call. I found the issue to be from excessive text messages and calls in my logs. I've since done a clean out of old messages and call records and the issues seemed to have gone away.

I set my text message notification sound, as soon as I close the text message screen the text message notification sound changes back to cricket guitar. I hate it. Does anyone no how to fix this? If so send me instructions to my email. email removed by Moderator . Please help I hate the cricket guitar sound
