PS - I've read that flashing/rooting? with Kalkulin's rom solves the LOS issue and makes the phone a lot better. But a non-tech guy like myself probably shouldn't be messing with that. And i don't even know if my issue qualifies as LOS.

In general, rooting and installing custom kernels seems to increase the chance of getting LOS, not decrease it. Besides, you don't want to risk breaking your phone/warranty if you're not experienced in flashing ROMs. I say you screenshot it (power button + home) or leave the LOS on when it happens and show it to a Sprint rep so he can get you a different phone.
