I recently exchanged my Hero because of some problems that it was having. The guy at best buy was having a hard time putting the contacts on my phone for some reason. When he finally got them on there I got an error message in my notifications that says "Too many contacts deletes" when I click it gives me three options: Delete the items, Undo the deletes, or do nothing for now. I have tried each one of these and the error messages comes back. When I go under settings to Data synchronization and go to contacts it says that sync is is currently experiencing problems. Is anyone else getting this for gmail?

re: too many contacts deletes (gmail)

I too am having this error message. This is what I have tried...

1) I unselected my htc eris droid contacts auto sync (settings > data synchronization > Google > application sync settings > contacts)
2) I deleted all of the contacts on my phone (HTC Eris Droid from Verizon Wireless)
3) Backed up gmail contacts and deleted all of those as well.
4) I then restored all of the gmail contacts
5) I re-selected my htc eris droid contacts auto sync (settings > data synchronization > Google > application sync settings > contacts)

This did not work. I tried this about three times so far. I even tried...

4) I then re-selectedmy htc eris droid contacts auto sync (settings > data synchronization > Google > application sync settings > contacts) and re-synced with empty phone contacts and empty gmail contacts
5) I unselected my htc eris droid contacts auto sync (settings > data synchronization > Google > application sync settings > contacts)
4) I then restored all of the gmail contacts
5) I re-selected my htc eris droid contacts auto sync (settings > data synchronization > Google > application sync settings > contacts)

After all this I still get the error if I keep the Google auto sync settings for my conacts. I have been toggling the contacts auto sync option and only syncing when I make changes.

What my problem was is that they put the contacts on my phone then I signed in with my gmail syncing my contacts. Just keep telling it to delete and it will eventually stop. It's a back up of gmail trying to sync correctly.

So....your phone contacts won't sync to gmail? Sorry...:( I don't really understand your response.

My situation is this. My gmail contacts will sync with my phone but it appears that my phone contacts don't always sync with gmail contacts. I think I have found that the pattern in my situation is when I create a new contact on the phone as a "google" contact and not a "phone" contact. I get the too many contacts deletes but syncing appears to be working essentially.

It's a little hard to actually explain as I don't know the technical reason its doing this. Leave it to sync and when you get the message just keep telling it to delete and after a day or two it will stop.

Okay that sounds like what I have been dealing with except the guy from VZW did't have a problem loading contacts onto my HTC droid eris.

My situation is that I did have to delete contacts on my phone and gmail as I had too many duplicates. So what I have now is the situation that I always get this error but the sync essentially works. Nothing I have tried has stopped yet.

Ive solved it!

But dont why it works, probably something that should be fixed in the OS.
Go to Home>Settings>Data Synch>Google> uncheck contacts. Wait a couple minutes then recheck. Then, once you get the error again go to Notifications> Too many contact deletes > Delete.

By unchecking and rechecking the contacts synch my hero deleted many more contact deletes. Before trying this I had 121 contact deletes and when I selected for these to be deleted sometimes it would erase one, sometimes none at all. But after unchecking, checking contact deletes somehow it was able to delete like 30 at a time. This was driving me nuts ever since I had this phone but Im slowly getting it.

For every 10 contacts it is 5 seconds to wait after hitting deleted then wait 5 seconds unchecked sync contacts 120 contacts = 60 seconds (delete wait) + 60 seconds Sync Contact unchecked wait) then recheck it. I have 600+ to work with..

Thanks that worked for me.

I just posted this over at "backup contacts"...

I had lots and lots of duplicates and ones that needed to be merged.

From the original phone plus gmail other email accounts and maybe FaceBook etc etc.

I tried several programs and finally found one that works but it can't (and neither can any other app) see Facebook contacts.

So the first thing to do is to delete FB from the "accounts and sync". What info do you need from FB accounts?

https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...s?id=com.holyhog.dcfdpro&hl=en&token=Hb4xZwmm not the free version; left me with only about 20 minutes of touching up to do.
