Too much hype...

countless? i dont know about countless, but the droid did put a dent into both BB and apple.

i had the droid and i went back to my BB (no reception with verizon). it basically comes down to what you need in a phone.

the droid does have a nice web browser that makes us BB users envious, but the push email, AMAZING keyboard, and security keeps me coming back. the way that blackberry organizes its menus and UI make it a winner because everything is displayed very clearly and is straightforward.

the droid's os is a little awkward and takes some getting use to. i took for granted simple things that were intuitive on the BB os that requires some extra tinkering on the droid. ex. i could not figure out how to turn my phone onto vibrate for 3 days and i STILL dont know how to check the battery life without download an app. if i have problems with little stuff like turning the phone onto vibrate, i dont know how i will be able to do more complicated things.

You'll find more of your own kind there, people who like BB's more than Andriod phones.
The Nexus One is an amazing phone. I have been using it for about a week. lightning quick.... apps run awesome on it. VOIP with Google Voice is super sweet. Two issues... 1) battery life, 2) it will not sync with my outlook calendar.
I am sure the outlook calendar issue will be resolved prior to release, but the battery life thing kind of sucks. I guess since you are constantly hooked up to GPS it drains the battery a bit. It lasts about 1 day.

Perhaps you could post some pics?:D

The only People who are crying about the "Nexus One" are "Droid" users. So let me get it right, you "Droid" users are original "Storm" users and was so disappointed that after a year of a crappy device(not all BB's, just the "Storm") that after a year of bs you all switch to the "Droid". Yea y'all are happy cause y'all have the hottest Android device to date, but now that there's a new and hotter device coming out, you all get envious and fear that that your "Droid" will be forgotten. And for the one who saying "Great job "Google", you gonna release your phone on T-mobile with only a few people are on", shut up! cause I remember Tmo was the only carrier to give "Android" a chance, while Verizon was crying that they pass on the iPhone. Also for the idiots that say "If the Google Phone was really a "Google Phone" then why is it made my HTC?", umm cause HTC makes phone for other co.(hint the T-MOBILE My Touch, T-MOBILE Dash etc.) This is what I'm trying to say, you all have a great device, so there no need to bash the Nexus One cause what gonna make Android so amazing is that it wont just be a touch screen ipod that makes phone calls(sorry, I had to go there, lol), it's gonna be a community with all kinds of phones rather it's all touch screen or pull-out keyboard or sider, and I think that whats gonna make this community amazing cause we'll have the same great os but have the phone of our choice.

I don't think anybody who has a Droid is really crying about not waiting... There's a thread in the Droid forum just as long as this one, and not a single person is saying they wished they waited out of all the posts. I think everyone, at least all the Droid owners, are agreeing with you that the Droid, and practically every other Android phone out there is a great device in its own right. Nobody has any regrets about waiting for the Nexus.
And we're not bashing the Nexus either, more just listing what we love about our phones and why we don't have any regrets. The only thing about the Nexus that I really, really want is 2.1 on my Droid!

one reservation i do have about switching donkey is that the android community seems to be small.

on crackberry, there are tons of ppl who know what they are doing and are willing to share. im no hacker, so ill need help with complicated things like partitioning memory from my micro sd as ram or teathering or using my phone as a wireless access point if i get an android. u know, the cool stuff. but there seems to be no advice to how to do this that is readily and easily accessible.

any suggestions.

The Android community may be small, but there are plenty of people who can help. The ones who use this forum are often the enthusiasts who really love their phone and know how to get the most out of it. Granted, there may not be as many, but I'm sure you'll find there are enough.

For instance, try searching the forum for "tethering".

I know what you mean, coming from spending a lot of time on the crackberry forums before and after I even had one, I know the frustration of seeing that there's less than 25 posts in the MyTouch forum and only the CDMA phone forums are doing well. In fact, the Nexus One forum only got 2 pages worth of threads a little while ago.

However, this site and these forums are going to be getting a lot more attention, posts, and users once this phone and other Android phones come out. I like to think of this site as the crackberry site right before the 83xx series of phones came out. Yes it had a good number of users, but after those phones hit, that site rocketed to popularity.

If you need some help on modding or rooting your phone, you could check the (excuse me moderators for mentioning another site not affiliated with the smartphone experts) Tmobile forums. There's a ton of people there and they do have rooting forums and links to instructions but you can't discuss hype about new phones and everyone there is trying to gain prestige by being super polite so it gets kind of annoying.
