Too much hype...

I don't know what all the hype is about this phone. At the end of the day it is simply another HTC Android device honestly, running 2.1. That's all. Does it look nice, sure but frankly some other devices not yet released look better than this device.

I think a lot of people are buying into this early hype. Unless Google is keeping something very major under wraps, this is a normal Android device. Just my opinion.

I said the same exact thing in another thread. Thought you quoted me for a sec. Haha

Speaking as a t-mobile user and a former verizon customer of 7 years (att before that) I am truly excited, as the best android offering for tmobile currently (in my opinion) is the mytouch. Those of you still on verizon are very lucky to have the droid (I'm drooling with envy).

That being said it is not far off that there will be unlocked phones with radios built to handle both att and tmobiles 3g signal. I believe I read it on boy genius (cant find it now, but will search for it) that motorola was developing a radio that could handle both the tmob and att frequencies. The Nexus may be running on tmobile now, but who's to say it wont run both 3g signals?

My 2 cents, but I don't think its impossible to think that soon we may see a device capable of all 3g frequencies.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO THINK ABOUT TMOBILE'S NEW PHONE PLANS. They don't subsidize ANY phones any more, they just do payments and spread it out over 20 months. This was done SPECIFICALLY in colusion with Google to be compatible with offering a "google phone" They also have NO CONTRACT UNLIMITED PLANS which will be the best option when we all switch over to Google voice with a data plan only. TMO is going to be the only Carrier left to provide 3G where you can't get wifi.

SO BASICALLY, TMOBILE will finance this phone for you and give you an unlimited data plan (which will be all you need) without a contract

um, you will still need a voice plan if you plan to talk to anybody. GV as of right now does not do VOIP.

there is nothing different about this phone from anything else aside from it having 2.1 and snapdragon, all in a really thin casing.

so it's a nice phone no doubt, but nothing game changing.

that being said, i really want 2.1 on my droid!

Have you looked at T-Mobiles 3G map?

T-Mobile Coverage

It's the dark purple.....if you can find it.

I really hit the nail on the head. Simply another HTC Android device.

Coverage this, coverage that. I get good coverage with T-mobile but it doesn't even matter because I'm always in an area with Wi-Fi. I'm paying half of what a lot of Verizon/AT&T customers are paying for. So yeah, go ahead and try to make yourselves feel better. Verizon may have the best coverage but ask yourselves this: Do I travel across the country every day? Do I have coverage in my area? Are the prices I'm paying reasonable? That should explain why a lot of people settle for T-mobile/Sprint. Sucks to be people who don't have their coverage in their area and have to pay much more for reception.

By the way, this Google Phone looks sweet and its hardware makes the Droid's look like crap. After seeing the Droid in person I couldn't imagine having that stupid slider, hence the reason I sold my old Sidekick. All the Google Phone needs is UMA and it's a seller. I'm content with my BB (8900) that I bought 10 months ago and am not a person who buys phones every few months. So maybe when my contract is up or if T-mobile offers me the phone I'll go Android but for now I'm a happy camper with my BB. Great keyboard, great battery life and 3rd party browsers make browsing great.

haha, great browsing and blackberrys is an oxymoron.

Having owned the 8900 and now owning the mytouch, I would have to argue that there is no 3rd party browser that would ever make me say "I wanna jump back on the blackberry bandwagon". Once a longtime blackberry user gets a good taste of android, there are not many willing to go back.

As for the "paperweight" keyboard on the droid, I would bet dimes to dollars, if you owned one your tune would change. I found the build quality of the Droid to be fantastic. If I could shell out the kind of money verizon wants to run the darn thing, I would switch in a heartbeat. Not to mention that beautiful new ETF of $350.00 the FCC is investigating right now.

I guess my point is, don't hate on the droid untill you've owned one, especially if you are still using a 8900. Countless BB users are flocking to the Driod, not to metion the others who are flocking to other android devices.

My personal estimate of when a phone is going to be released is 3 months after being FCC certified. Since the Nexus One/Passion or whatever strange name Tmobile is going to give it was certified not too long ago, I expect the phone to come out in late February/early to mid March. I may be completely off the mark though

countless? i dont know about countless, but the droid did put a dent into both BB and apple.

i had the droid and i went back to my BB (no reception with verizon). it basically comes down to what you need in a phone.

the droid does have a nice web browser that makes us BB users envious, but the push email, AMAZING keyboard, and security keeps me coming back. the way that blackberry organizes its menus and UI make it a winner because everything is displayed very clearly and is straightforward.

the droid's os is a little awkward and takes some getting use to. i took for granted simple things that were intuitive on the BB os that requires some extra tinkering on the droid. ex. i could not figure out how to turn my phone onto vibrate for 3 days and i STILL dont know how to check the battery life without download an app. if i have problems with little stuff like turning the phone onto vibrate, i dont know how i will be able to do more complicated things.

I have to agree with you last point, at least I would have when I first got the Hero. I got it, returned it for a Pre 3 days later, and then I switched back to the Hero. It took a little bit of getting used to, but I think it may be a better way of doing it.

Btw, have you never owned a feature phone? Granted, all the feature phones I've owned were from Motorola, but to put all of them on vibrate you just turned the volume all the way down. That's how it's done on the Hero (or at least one way), and I'd bet dollars to donuts that you can do it the same way on the Droid.

The Nexus One is an amazing phone. I have been using it for about a week. lightning quick.... apps run awesome on it. VOIP with Google Voice is super sweet. Two issues... 1) battery life, 2) it will not sync with my outlook calendar.
I am sure the outlook calendar issue will be resolved prior to release, but the battery life thing kind of sucks. I guess since you are constantly hooked up to GPS it drains the battery a bit. It lasts about 1 day.

The new video had a few points that were key, but a lot of them were about 2.1.
The point about the Nexus One is that it does not support multi-touch. However, that could still be a 2.1 point, not something with the hardware, which is the case with the Droid.
Also, 2.1 does not support flash, and it has a redesigned, spiffy new clock widget, and a new music player.
I like watching these leaks more for info about 2.1 than for about the phone. Is that a bad thing? ;)
