Top Case for drop protection

Hi all,

Like most here I've stuck my name down for an S10 plus preorder.

My question is, which cases offer the best protection from drops and bangs? I have been using just a clear plastic Samsung case with my S8 plus, which is why the screen has been shattered for a few months now!

I basically want a case I can use at work for maximum protection, then have another case for general use out and about.

I'm in the UK by the way, so any advice/suggestions are very welcome.

Gear4 has a new case called Platoon that offers 20ft of drop protection. Also, check out the Griffin Survivor Endurance, OtterBox Defender Pro, Incipio Aerolite, and the X-Doria Defense Lux. Those are just a few that I've bookmarked.

I bought a Zizo bolt for my Note 9 and it has great protection with minimal bulk. It's also less than half the price of the otterbox defender.

I bought a Zizo bolt for my Note 9 and it has great protection with minimal bulk. It's also less than half the price of the otterbox defender.

Ordered the Zizo Bolt and Spigen Neo Hybrid for my s10+ last night. Should get them Wednesday then hopefully my phone the following Wednesday.

I'm a big fan of the UAG Monarch case. Allegedly 'milspec' drop protection. I've dropped my phone from about seven feet and it's still pristine.

My concern with the UAG Monarch is that the sides aren't high enough to protect the screen from shattering should I drop it, especially on concrete. Can you confirm that the sides are high enough to not have the screen exposed?

The sides aren't high enough, but the edges are, if you drop it, the edges would typically touch first. I've dropped my S9+ and Note 9 without issues.

I didn't get the Monarch this year because I wanted to add a PopSocket, so I got the UAG Plyo.

Otterbox Defender on all my smartphones since 2006. The Pelican Shield is another great option. Pricey and bulk, both are relative, outweigh damage to a $1,000+ smartphone made of glass.

The Pelican Shield is another one that I'm considering, along with the OtterBox Defender Pro, because I want to make sure the S10+ is as protected as possible. A few questions about the Shield, if you don't mind:

1) How is the grip on the back of the case, is the Kevlar slippery or textured?

2) Aside from the raised top and bottom, does the lip sit above or below the screen on either side? If the lip does sit above the screen, is it difficult to swipe left or right?

3) I know the case has three tabs to make it easier to open. Have you ever had an instance of a particularly bad drop where the case came apart as a result?

Of the two cases, which would you recommend? For reference, I'm currently using a Speck CandyShell Grip on my Nexus 6P. I love the rubber grips on the back, but the rubber lip around the case has warped and peeled off. As such, Speck's S10+ case isn't being considered this time around.

Honestly, you can't go wrong with either the Pelican or the Defender. I have used the Defender for a long time and they get better every year in terms of bulk without compromising protection. The Defender for GS10+ is less bulky than the one for the GS9+, has better button response, has elevated forehead and chin protection while still allowing access to the edge panels on the sides, and has great access to the USB C and 5mm headphone jack.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. Is there a difference between the regular Defender and the Defender Pro, that you know of? I know the Defender Pro has lines on the back, but I'm not sure if they're supposed to help with grip, or if it's just a design choice.

Take this with a grain of salt. The Best Buy guy said that the regular Defender is being phased out.

but it does affect the edge app a little bit.

The Otterbox Pursuit has raised lips all around the sides above display for best screen protection. It also has impact rubber lining on the inner frame to absorb shock and prevent dust from going in. Fully sealed on the camera cutout and port covers too. IMO, it's the most protective case for the S10 yet slimmer than the Defender which only protects the top and bottom as the sides on the Defender aren't raised.
