Total Hands free for car

Can anyone point me to an app or a way to have total hands free with an android phone while in car. My car has Bluetooth and works well with my old windows phone. It read message and sends messages without me having to touch the phone. but in android it just doesn't seem to want to do it. I have a mate 10 pro.

If you come from a windows phone you will know what i am used to. and if you have come across something that works in that manner please let me know.

Have you tried out Android Auto? I believe it utilizes Google Assistant ("OK Google") to achieve a total hands-free experience. Also has a more simplified interface with larger buttons that makes it easy, if you still want to touch your phone.

I tried android auto utilizing google assistant but not sure why but read sms.. or let me reply..
I will add my car doesn't have android auto built in. Just standard bluetooth interface.

My car used to read messages as well. (2015 Accord EX-L)

Ever since Android 6.0 or maybe 7.0 something fundamentally changed in Android where it doesn't work anymore.

Yeh i come from a windows phone and this is one area where the windows phone really showed its worth. I have tried android assistant and android auto.. but I cant seem to get them to send or read texts.. I will keep plugging away...
