Total Mobile Data Usage significantly higher than the data usage of the individual apps.

Hello community,

I use an galaxy s10 with android 10. My problem is, that my mobile data usage is extremly high although I am mainly using wifi. When I track my Mobile Data Usage in the settings they say i used 1.85 GB within 10 days, but if i sum up the usage of the individual apps listed below I only count 450MB. My provider also measures 1.85 GB. So there is a gap of around 1.4 GB within 10 days, where I have no clue why and when they occur. The individual app data usage corresponds to my usage behavior. So they are reasonable. But the huge gap is not reasonable to me. I have to somehow stop this data usage because it is going to consume almost all of my high speed data included.

The settings:
- Data Saver is activated.
- Background data for most apps (excluding massengers) restricted.
- Updates are only permitted via wifi.
- Apps like: GlassWire Data Usage Monitor and Data Monitor: Simple Net-Meter did not track mobile data usage at all.
- App: Data Counter Widgets displays the same Data Usage information as in the native Android settings.
- VoLTE deactivated
- Download Booster off.

I hope that some of you know how to solve this problem.

I'm curious if the OP has any update on this. I'm experiencing the same thing with my S10 right now.

I have a 10gb data plan, and typically my data usage would fall in the 6 to 7GB range. On occasion I've used 8 to 9GB, but in those cases the extra data usage was easily identified: always from watching a few games of CFL football on the TSN Go app.

My last billing cycle was the first time I've exceeded the 10GB, and I'm lost for an explanation. Prior to this my phone's data usage matched fairly closely with my provider's total, and the individual app usage also matched my phone's recorded data usage. However, last month there is roughly a 3.5GB difference between the recorded data usage and the total for individual apps. Having used 7GB of data is realistic, and falls in line with my historical usage.

I'm 2.5 days into my new billing cycle, my phone has recorded 750MB of usage. My individual app usage totals is roughly 65MB. I'm on pace to exceed my 10GB again with relatively light usage.

Data saver was previously off, I turned it on in the last 3 days of the previous billing cycle. Not sure it has made a difference.

Mobile data only apps is, and always has been off.

Looking at the usage graph, one thing that stands out is from the point of the most recent software update in the middle of December, my usage is at a consistent climb. I'm a shift worker, so I'm basically at home 50% of the time. A lot of my data usage is during my work commute or during breaks. My data usage typically flat lines on the graph during my days off because 95% of my data usage is on WiFi. That's not the case over the last two weeks.
