Touch screen - as good as iPod/iPhone?

Newbie here - please forgive me if this question has been posted somewhere else.

I'm thinking of getting the Incredible when I'm eligible for upgrade in August (maybe they'll be in stock by then ), and I'm curious as to the touch screen controls. I recently had an LG EnV Touch with Verizon that I really detested. The touch screen was horrible and really had a mind of it's own - but at least it had a physical keyboard to go with it, so I didn't have to rely solely on the screen. But, with no physical keyboard on the Incredible, I'm worried I'll have the same iffy touchscreen issue and nothing to fall back on.

I've been using the iPod touch since it came out (1st gen and now the newest version), and my iPad - I'm curious to know if anyone else has used an Apple product, then the Incredible, and if the touch screen is close? Over the years, I've learned to type pretty fast on the Apple touch screen and hope the Incredible feels the same - will I be disappointed?

Typing takes some getting used to though. But as far as responsiveness and all that, it's the same or better.

I have the current generation of iPod touch and I think the screen is equally comparable to the Incredible. Both have glass screens which make scrolling and touch gestures really smooth. I haven't had any issues with responsiveness, the incredible has a great touch screen. My previous phone was an LG dare which had one of the best touch screens for its generation in my opinion (it is a flexible plastic screen), but the incredible blows it away. Typing on the incredible is a breeze and very similar to the iPod touch, the keyboards are obviously different but the touch keyboard on the incredible is huge when you have it in landscape mode. I had all sorts of issues with my Dare's touch screen, I haven't had a single problem with the Incredible.

I will not lie to you... I have asked this same question MANY times on about different phones.

1. My Inc's screen looks roughly 2.41x as good. AMOLED > LCD. There is a noticeable difference.
2. In terms of responsiveness, coming from an iTouch, this phone is very comparable. It is nice, I assure you.
3. I would say in quality, the iTouch has the leg up. It feels a bit nicer to me. It feels more glass-like (even though they're both glass).
4. Multitouch. iTouch is better. Period. It simply is crazy accurate. But, this really doesn't matter a lot. Unless you are using multitouch intensive apps, you won't notice at all. Pinch-to-zoom is exactly the same, for example.

I'd also like to mention, I previously had an Omnia (resistive, like the enV touch), and I used to carry around my touch as well. I no longer even use it! ;D

After the 30 minutes I played with it in store, I have to say it is very much comparable. I bought it, btw, but backorders suck.

Anyways, here's my findings:

• Responsiveness equals iPod touch G3 and iPod touch 1G.
• Typing was a little strange, although I was used to it within the 30 minutes I played with the phone for.
• Someone mentioned the quality of the glass being inferior; I didn't see that. They were equal, IMHO.
• iPod touch was better with multitouch. Accuracy wise, at least.

The multitouch thing isn't a big deal, as you can still double-tap to zoom into text. Plus, multitouch just seems to me to be a bit of a novelty. it isn't particularly useful.

I'd say go for the Incredible.

I came from an LG Dare which stated before was one of the best touchscreens of its generation but after time it became terrible. Jumping to this phone is a whole other world. I feel the touch accuracy, responsiveness, everything is great on this phone. My friend who is an apple lover and has a iTouch 2G played with my phone and he always complains how no touchscreen matches apples and he instantly was like wow I think this touchscreen is better than apples. So it is a very comparable to apple. Once you get used to it you won't have a problem at all with it (should only take like a day or 2).

Apple might have a slightly better multitouch over the INC but if you watch the videos where Phil tested out the multitouch it seemed to work flawlessly.

Play with it once and see what you think. I definitely suggest going to a Verizon store and testing it out before you buy it. Plus most likely by August there will be something bigger and better out or just around the corner. *iPhone, 4G phone, who knows*

For sure go with the Inc, I agree with that. But, when I'm talking multitouch I mean how the phone responds to pressing multiple points. Pinch-to-zoom is flawless, but in debug programs minor errors can be observed. iDevices handle this 100%, as where the Inc doesn't quite. That's all I was meaning, to clarify for the OP.

For what its worth:

I never liked touch screens on anything and always found them incredibly inaccurate especially with the ipods/iphones (apparently im the only one lol BUT this could be because i never liked/used touch screens).

I went to the verizon store with every assumption that the incredible would let me down just as all the other so called best touch devices had in the past had but THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. After about 5 minutes and a couple sentences of text and trying to text as quick as possible i was blown away with how accurate it was.

needless to say i bought the phone the first week it came out and have been loving every second

I had a 2nd Gen iPod Touch. IMHO, the iPod's touch interface is a little slicker. It never EVER lags, and response to touch input is spot-on precise. The Inc is VERY good, don't get me wrong, but the iPod to me was a little snappier on touch. I sold my iPod, though, to have my Inc be my all-in-one, so that tells you the difference wasn't much. Landscape keyboard is fine, no complaints.

you do realize their will be better Android devices on Verizon in August, correct?
