Touchscreen Issues

I just purchased my nook during the ebay $50 off sale. I'm thrilled to have it running CM7; however, I've been getting alot of random screen presses, specifically near the "L" key on the keyboard. I was wondering if this could be a hardware issue or rom issue. In addition, the top right corner is often hard to press (near the CM7 back buton or search icon during the market).

Has anyone else been having issues with their screens?

Yeah the top right button area seems to be hard to press on certain screens, like market search. Yet in other modes, like the nook stock launcher the book menu drops down no problem. Looks to be a software issue vs hardware based on my testing.

yeah the top right area is hard to press on every nook color I've played with, though I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software problem. As for random key presses, I've had my fair share but I believe them to be software based. I've had far fewer with recent versions of CM7 than I did with Honeycomb v4 and early Froyo versions. At first I thought my Nook was defective, but now they are few and far between.

Get a B&N screen protector.

There are issues with some faulty chargers (so I've read on xda-devs) causing phantom screen touches. Also, regardless of that, the screen is extremely sensitive to moisture from your touching. It happens to me frequently but I've also read the B&N screen protector nearly eliminates this and is also a decent product to boot.

In the meantime, when phantom touches start happening quickly lock the screen and wipe with a microfiber or soft cloth. I even use my shirt in a pinch and it solves my problem immediately.

I'm using a Zagg screen protector, and don't seem to have the phantom touch issue, just the non-sensitive top right corner issue which only seems to be sometimes with some software.

I don't have any screen protectors on. I didn't want to put one on until I got the issue resolved as i'm afraid I'll have to get another screen protector if I get the device replaced.

Just tried the recalibration App. Doesn't seem to help, if anything it makes it worse.

For those who are having issues, did you buy the device recently (wondering if it could be a bad batch).

B&N will be sending out a new one, so I'll see if things change. Just gotta make sure I put this thing back to stock.

Mine which doesn't have the phantom touch issue but does occasionally have the upper right issue (mostly with softkey) is a brand new one purchased from the $200 special off ebay that arrived Monday.

Well I just got my Nook Color this week from the ebay deal as well and found I had bad calibration type issues once I put Phiremod on it, while not phantom touches but if you try to tap the backspace button on the keyboard you have to aim for the bottom of it or you will get a "L" instead. Since the SD card slot latch died on my first one I had to revert to stock (real fun holding a SD card is place for over 5 minutes while doing a restore) and found out that these problems WERE NOT there on the stock ROM.

After I popped into B&N and picked up a replacement I registered it and backed it up again and confirmed that the screen seemed perfectly accurate I flashed Phiremod back on and noticed the touch accuracy issues right away. I will try that calibration app in a bit but I'm thinking this might be an issue with the OC kernel as I noticed some mention of edge of the screen touch issues in the changelog.

Well I had a chance to try that touchscreen calibration app finally and while it did not make a massive difference it did help and touches do seem more accurate, I would highly recommend giving it a try.

Had B&N swap out the nook for the phantom screen presses. Much better now. Still issue with not being able to tap the corner of the screen sometimes.

Did the new CM7 update last night (build 17) this time I did not install the overclocking and it seemed to make a big difference on the corner screen presses.
