Trace keyboard not recognising any words (HTC One A9S)

I'm setting up my new phone and have set everything for the trace keyboard as it was on my old phone (M8) which worked fine. The keyboard is showing the trace with no problem but it doesn't recognise any words, giving the error message 'No matched words'.
I've tried googling the problem but it seems no-one else has it. I'm guessing it's something obvious I've forgotten to do but would be grateful for any help.

Should anyone come across this in future, I've managed to solve it. Apparently the phone doesn't have a dictionary of any sort downloaded, so you have to go to settings/language & keyboard/HTC Sense input/keyboard selection then scroll down to whatever you need (English UK in my case) which takes you to the play store. Install the keyboard you're offered and trace now works. It also picks up your personal dictionary imported from a previous phone once you've done this too.
