tranfer contacts to gmail

hi i just noticed that all my contacts on my phone arent saved on my gmail account is there a simple way to export them,thanks im not very good at this stuff so the simpler the better

1. People App----->Menu--------->Export to SD Card. (remember the file name).

2. People App----->Menu--------->Import from SD Card to your Gmail account on phone.

3. Sync with Gmail.

4. Create a new Contact on Phone and select save to Gmail. make sure this is the default action from now on. (not "Phone").

Thanks for the tip but It didnt work tried a couple times when I go export to gmail from sd card the file only says one contact ,then I sync to gmail and the number of contacts in gmail is the same.

also you cant specify what contacts to export (ie just the ones in backup assistant/phone) it wants to do Facebook, Twitter, and both of my gMail accounts as well some 1300 contacts.

Sorry for what most will see as dumb question... but HOW do you do #3 "sync with Gmail"?Recently followed Inspector Gadget's link and got all my contacts on my phone as google cantacts but when I check my google contacts from my laptop about 1/3 or more of them are not there!?

Settings -> Accounts & Sync -> click on your Gmail account -> click Sync Contacts

That's all you have to do.

Thanks for the reply (and for saying not a dumb question ) but you may have missed my point. I'm trying to make sure ALL my contacts are backed up to my Gmail account on my computer before I do a hard reset on my phone. Do I have to connect my phone to my laptop with the USB cable to get the two to sync?

I got it... I was just being dumb!..I was trying to do all of the above steps from my "People" app and I couldn't find anything about "sync" :-[ duh! Then I realized you all were talking about going in to it from the "Settings" side and then sync!

Thanks! Still not totally fixed though. All my "Groups" are on my PC but 25 - 30 contacts are still not there. When I do the "sync" thing from the phone I get a"Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly." message. Anybody know what that is all about?
