Transfer of contacts from Google to Incredible

I recently got the DINC and have transfered my contacts from google. The problem I am having is that the whole address for each contact is placed on the first line under postal address instead of seperating it by city, state and zip code. Is this normal or do I have to do something in google or on the phone to get it to show properly.

Thanks for the welcome. I am not sure what you mean by just hit return.
Could you give me just a little more detail. I would appreciate it.

open each contact on the website in your contacts and hit return after the street address, then the town, state and zip.

John Doe
xxx main street
android, PA xxxx

is how you need it to appear.

right now it's
john doe xxxxmain st android, pa xxxx

Thats how it is set up in my contacts page in g-mail.
It may be that these contacts were transferred from another source which was either from Hotmail or from my Blackberry to google, I don't remember. I didn't manually set it up in google. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Mine transferred fine. I synced from blackberry to yahoo then exported them and then imported them to google. Then synced to incredible and it all came out fine.

Maybe the method you used to sync with google was the problem.

I just tried 2 things and neither worked. First I added a contact on my phone using all the fields under postal address to see how it showed up in my google contacts page. This is how it looked in the address box in google.

123 USA Way
America, NY 11111

Then I added a contact in google and put the address in the address box just like that and it still showed up on my phone all in one line. It still did not seperate the city, state and zip code.

I think I failed to mention that this is happening when I go into the contact on my phone and click Edit Contact. It is under Postal Address.

anicholas7, the problem is that gmail only has 1 big field for your address. your phone has several. if you type in the address into your phone, it will appear the same way in gmail on your computer. but if you make a change in gmail, then it will revert back to 1 field on your phone. kind of sucks that gmail doesn't have separate fields for the address portion.

O.K here was my problem. I started to get double entries in my contacts.
The contacts were being synced to the phone from Google and from the backup assitant from Verizon.
The rep from verizon also said that the problem could be that because I have
my msn mail going into my google account then pushed to my phone it was also bringing over my contact list from there and somehow screwing things up.
My solution was to delete every contact from my msn and Google account then going into Verizon backup assistant and updating all my contacts there then syncing it to my phone. Everything is working fine now. The only thing I don't like is having facebook link to my contacts and bringing over its own contact picture and adding more contacts to my phone list so I disabled that function.

Hope this helps anyone else who may have this problem.

For some reason the Back up Assistant from Verizon doesn't see any of my contacts. I have 334 records and when I go to My Verizon online to view my contacts there is nothing listed. When I look at my phone under accounts & sync it shows my Back up Assistant as being synced today. While on the my verizon website I can do a sync there as well and it completes with nothing for my contacts. Is it because I imported all my contacts from gmail?

I set up the gmail account and imported all my outlook contacts there as my previous phone was a Windows Mobile phone from Alltel and I figured that was the best way to get my contacts in my phone and I really don't use outlook as much as i did in the past and I wasn't sure of the syncing ability of the Inc to outlook. I set the gmail up before I received the phone.

It would be nice to have my contacts in my back up assistant in verizon as well.

I managed to get it to work by playing with the different address book extraction options and then importing it into google. Most of them had information in the Notes field but I was needing to go through and clean up and update some information anyways so I consider it maintenance and not annoyance.

EDIT: This doesn't work. I thought it did. It used to work on the BB using Google Sync, but when I look at "People" on my Incredible, I have the same problems as the OP.

Here are two example formats that work for most addresses. Leave a blank line if there is no "second" address line.

123 Main St
Apt #2

Never use that Verizon Backup Assistant. Just use Google, and do it from the phone as already stated. We went the whole backup assistant route with the wifes phone first time to see how it did, and it was a horrible mess with double contacts, wrong things in the wrong fields etc.

Coming from BB I just ran Google Sync on the BB, then put my credentials into the Android phone and everything was right the first time, every time.

That's how EZ I hoped it would be. :)

I got my contacts back up that way on google and vzw backup.
Just going to restore/transfer contacts to dinc from the google backup tho .
