Transferring all my apps to S24 ultra

I normally ensure my photos are synched with OneDrive and wipe the phone. I can resynch Gallery with OneDrive on my new device. I then copy my music library onto the phone. Then install my apps. This time I used Smart Switch, and it worked pretty well. I still had some apps to install that Smart Switch didn't copy and I had a weird issue with the Pro Video mode in the stock Camera app. When I put it in Pro Video mode, the image was upside down. Co-worker suggested I reset camera settings (we're all IT specialists). After resetting the stock Camera settings, everything worked like a charm. Sadly, one of my favorite apps, "Package Tracker Pro," is a 32bit app and won't run on my S24 Ultra.

I assume using the USB cable would be faster. Do u know if s24 has smart switch installed already? I know my s9 doesn't have it. I need to download the smart switch app to my s9

Yes. For me it was. For people that are switching from older USB 2.x phones, the Wifi may be faster.

Yes, Smart Switch is installed on the S23. You will need to ensure it is installed on the other phone.

So I got my phone earlier than expected. Is it best to charge it right around 80 to 85% and never or at least try not to charge it at 100%? To be able to keep the battery healthy as possible for a while? I plan on keeping the s24 for a while. I'm the type that don't upgrade to a new phone every couple of yrs.
I also read its a good idea not having the battery power drop below 30%.
And I assume its not a good idea to charge the battery while watching YouTube or browsing the net?

Thanks

Take that 85% and 30% with a grain of salt. The people who worry are people who seem to be emotionally tied to their phones.

Us Normies usually can get three to four years before seeing any kind of battery degredation. Charging it too 100% and letting it go below 30% won't make much of a difference. Just enjoy life and use the phone as it was designed to be used. If you need to, top it up.

Of course, someone will respond with all the techy reasons why I'm wrong. Take it with a grain of salt.

The S24 Ultra has an inbuilt feature that you can use for battery protection. Screenshot_20240203_122339_Device care.jpg

I agree. Real world use takes precedence over idealized theory.

I don't care what some university study concluded. When it comes to everyday use, do what works for you.

I put my phone on the wireless charger all night. Wake up in the morning, use my phone all day, drop it on the charger at night, wash, rinse and repeat the next day.

Under normal use, by the evening it may be down to 40%. If I used it for several Teams meetings, it might get down to 20 near the end of the work day, but I'll plug it into my car charger on the way home.

One other thing I do, and probably makes no difference but I do it anyway, I turn "fast charging" OFF. I've never needed it.

I have too much for me. I don't want to spend hrs on end lol
Yup. Too much time and effort involved for me to bother with reconfiguring things from scratch.

Smart Switch (over wifi) did awesome bringing all of my data (including Secure Folder contantainer apps and data!), settings and customizations over from S23+ to S24+.

Smart Switch via cable worked great. The only big hiccup came when I tried to use the pro video mode. The image was upside down. After resetting my camera settings, everything worked fine. I only had one app that wouldn't work (Package Tracker Pro). Most likely because it hasn't been updated to 64bit. I have a feeling as more Android devices get updated to 64bit, it will eventually get updated. Then again, it hasn't been updated since 2016, so... I'm not holding my breath.

Has the developer responded regarding potential updates to the app, or does the app appear to be abandoned?

The app appears to be abandoned. There are several complaints in the Google Play store. I've reported it as abandoned. Let's see if Google does anything.

Wouldn't only fast charging work if you have charger plug? I don't plan on buying a new charger. I'm just going to use charger from my old Samsung charger plug.
If not, how do u turn it off? I assume if u keep using fast charging, it will degrade the battery quicker over time

I've been using fast charging since it came out. I have not seen any battery degradation from it. Again, all of the techies will show you why you shouldn't use it. You can take that stuff with a grain of salt too.

I'll say it again. Us Normies don't need to worry about battery degradation. The people most concerned with battery degradation are the ones that can't put their phones down even to use the bathroom.

There is also fast wireless charging. You need a wireless charger that supports 15W. Superfast charging is wired and requires a 25W or more charger and cable. Superfast Charging 2.0 is 45W or more.
