Anyone know if sprint is going to have the ability to transfer contacts the day of launch ? ?

(Coming from Pre)

Ok just called and the sprint rep said that they will have the means to do a complete transfer of contacts including facebook and such. I am comming from a pre also. That was a good question that made me pick up the phone and ask.

Im coming from an iPhone (just sold it today and mailed it out) and all of my contacts are on my windows contacts....I'm hoping I can sync from there

Good to know, I just hope my Pre is intact enough to pull the info from! It is literally breaking in two from the crack at the USB port.

Good to know, was hoping I wasn't going to have to write down 150+ contacts.

You just go to gmail or google voice and click on "Contacts" on the left, there you can import a CSV that you can get from Windows Contacts, by going to the folder and clicking "Export"

Just in case you miss it, once on the Google Contacts screen, it's the import link on the right of the page and you can choose the CSV file that Windows exported for you.

As a heads up, I've spent a good amount of pre-Evo time organizing my Google account for use with this phone, facebook is great for this but I've been trimming my friends list and may ultimately get rid of it.

I prefer an Outlook <-> Google Contacts sync to manage everyone.

Also of note, if you have Google Voice, you can assign different call groups to different greetings and/or call rules, it's slick, so worth it to me to "put my house in order".

1) You could have done a search on this same forum and found an answer to your question.

2) Here was the response I wrote in that thread:

Wow. Seriously? You own a Pre and you're asking if you need a specific machine to transfer contacts? webOS cannot sync to a machine, they only sync to a service--this is like the most basic tenet of webOS.

That said, you are either syncing your contacts to:

-Palm Profile (I hope not...)
-Google account
-Other web account compatible with webOS synergy (yahoo?)

If you are using a Google account, then this is a no-brainer. Simply enter your Gmail/Google credentials on the new phone and there you go.

If you are using yahoo or some other account, I would suggest you export your contact list, and import to a Google account you plan to use with the phone.

If you have contacts synced to your Palm Profile--this can happen if (1) manually designate Palm Profile as default (2) you start saving contacts unwittingly to the Palm Profile before setting up a synergy account--you'll have to copy those contacts out to one of your other accounts first. You'll have to do this on the phone.

How do you copy them out of your other accounts using the Pre?

I Came from a G1 switched to a Blackberry... I did the contact merge from there with the google sync app... I still use Google Sync so my Transfer will be instant... just Sign in and my contacts are there ;) YAY google!!!
