Okay so I am coming from a BB storm one and have a piece of junk computer (to put in nicely). I have a ton of music and ringtones and pictures on my BB's 8GB storage card but I want them on the X's 16GB. My card reader on my pc has quit working (along with both disc drives). All I have left is USB. I was wanting to just put my 8GB card in the X, temporarily transfer files to device memory, then put the 16GB back in and move them all over...can I do that somehow? It just dawned on me that I might be able to hook both phones up with USB to my PC and do this, but my question still remains. Is transferring files that way possible?

It doesn't need to be as complex as you suggested. Merely plug in your BB via USB, open the sd card, drag/drop files into a folder on your computer. Create one just for this on your desktop (right click) if you don't have something handy.

Unplug the BB, plug in the DX. Then drag and drop whatever files you want onto the DX sd card, just as you would a flash drive.

You need to have the BB and DX settings such that the card is visible to your computer. That is pretty much the default, as far as I can tell.

Never had any problem with transferring data, music, ringtones, etc. You will find there are folders on the DX sd card. Just load your things into the appropriate folder, OR create a new one. Super easy.

Arelunde is right on. This is the easiest method.
Be sure you turn encryption off if you used on your BB. Otherwise your files will not be usable on the DX.

absolutely right on....can't believe I didn't think of that myself. Sorry to waste anybody's time!

You were right to ask Sport. Sometimes these companies do weird things that complicate such menial tasks. Such as mentioned, turn off encryption for the transfer.

I was seriously at best buy last night shopping for pc's I was so mad at my POS PC! I need to do the anyway but still can't believe this simple solution didn't cross my mind...
While I have this going...does anyone know of a weather app that is comparable to BerryWeather? I really liked the radar feature not having to go to a website or to the browser to retrieve....

The quick and easy answer is Beautiful Widgets. Other than that it's really hit and miss.

Yeah, I've got that on here already, but it still just takes you to accuweather or weatherbugs website radar. I just liked how BerryWeather's radar seemed self contained

I especially like Weather Bug Elite (paid version) .. no ads, and lots of weather sites, particularly for areas that are relatively rural like where I live. With other apps, the closest weather site was by the ocean, which has totally different weather/temps/etc than inland has. Weather bug has a site nearby, so my weather app is genuinely functional. Plus, nice icon/widget with or without a color (of choice) background. Very nice.

Okay so I got all my files transferred over last night....two questions (for now)....
1) How can I get my ringtones that I loaded to get over with the Droid's ringtones?
2) Where do I view my pictures....I had it last night but I dont remember where I was looking

same question for me and is it necessary to keep the album art and other stuff that transfers over? i'd like to eliminate as much fluff as possible. thanks from a very new X noob!

Okay to answer your questions in order...

1) You will need to download a file manger from the market if you do not already have one. Using the file manager if there is not already present on you SD card create a folder called media. Inside the media folder create a folder called ringtones. Place the music files inside this folder that you would like to show up as ringtones.

2) You will use the Gallery application found in your app drawer to view all pictures and video you place on the device.

Hope that helps some. :)

Again, you can drag and drop all sorts of media via USB connection ... without specialized apps. In the media folder on the X's sd card > media > dcim for photos, ringtones for ringtones, music for music, etc. Still the easiest, most efficient way to add or transfer just about anything.

Oh, one more thing, don't install that Moto app that keeps showing up every time you plug in the USB connection. Waste of time. Hit cancel.

for ringtones create the following on sd card

New folder - media
Inside media, new folder - audio
Inside audio, new folder - ringtones
Inside ringtones - save ringtone files
