does the S3 have the same bug as the galaxy nexus where you can't reliably transfer files from the phone (or to the phone) by connecting it to your computer? the nexus would just hang there sometimes and not finish transferring files. sometimes it won't even register or start the process. that has to be one of the most annoying things i've ever encountered on a phone and i'm not looking to repeat that with another. thanks.

I haven't noticed that with mine. The most issues I have had have been with keys itself. That program will hang up more often than any I have worked with. But I have been able to transfer both ways without issue once it gets keys to work.

Kies, it's a file transfer program from Samsung.

It's also completely optional. Kies can be used to transfer/sync files, and also do firmware upgrades for some devices. You don't need to use Kies, however -- you can just hook up to your computer and view your SD Card and Internal storage via MTP using standard Windows File Explorer.

I've done it a few times and never had any issue (using Windows 7 PC).

Or you can use one of the bazillion apps available from the Google Play Store (or the one already on your phone from Samsung called 'Kies Air') to transfer files wirelessly.

awesome.

Kies works pretty well although for a quick transfer (photos, music etc.) Ive been doing bluetooth file transfer between S3 and macbook air and its incredibly quick and easy.

I have a HUGE lazy streak. File transfer needs to be wireless and stress free. I use "Wifi File Explorer"

Once you open it up, it takes just a second, and tells you the address to input into your browser like "http://192.168.1.17:8000"
Works so awesome and great when you have friends around with different phones/devices to share your stuff and get theirs.
ENJOY!
