Transferring from iphone to S8

I've had this problem when transferring from an Iphone to a samsung, which makes me go back to the iphone. The problem is with the messages that transfer. It slows down the phone and crashes the messaging app. I dont want to lose my messages but it's always a problem. is this common? Thanks

How many messages are you trying to transfer? If there are thousands, that could bog things down.
