Does anyone know of a way to restore chats from iPhone to Galaxy S8+? SO MUCH conflicting info out there.

Whatsap saves to cloud, so if you're signed in, theoretically you should be able to access your chats... But knowing how apple doesn't play with others....

I don't use an iPhone but on android you can save a backup of chat history to Google drive and then restore front here. works great. do you have the same option on iPhone?

Yes you do but it saves to iCloud. So my chat history is in iCloud but I want to restore to Android. It's a tricky one! Bottom line is I just start from scratch on the S8. Most of my chat history is probably nonsense anyway!

try downloading Google drive on the iphone and see if it backs up there

This is exactly why Apple needs to just suck it up and make a version of iMessage that is compatible with Android. It just needs to happen. Samsung generally plays fair with Apple, so yeah.

Not sure if this is whatsapp or apple tbh but it is not possible right now.

I echo the calls for iMessage on Android, I only use Whatsapp as all my friends do but find a lot things frustrating, lack of multi-device support and the backup mentioned here.

Feels like Facebook are mindful of not cannibalising Facebook Messenger. Come on Apple make it so!

iMessage will never be available cross platform - one of the biggest reasons people stay with apple is they are 'stuck' in the apple ecosystem. so if they start making things cross platform then I expect many more people will leave to try android.

it's a shame what's app backs up to iCloud on iOS. I don't know but I would imagine this is a limitation of iOS rather then the fault of what's app

Here is how:

Step 1. Directly find and open WhatsApp on Android, then go to "Setting > Chats Setting > Chat History > Email Chat".

Step 2. Select the conversation you wish to send to your iPhone, then a pop-up window will appear and ask you whether to transfer WhatsApp messages with media files or not. Choose one of the option and then go to the next step.

Step 3. Now, you'll be taken to a new page, here you need to type your email account and click the "Send" button.

When I log into WhatsApp from my desktop via the Windows 10 app or from my tablet, all of my messages are present. No need to transfer as the are stored in the cloud. Friends with iPhones have the same experience. That's my experience anyway.
