Does anyone know if I need to obtain a google ap in order to transfer word documents from my laptop to my Google Nexus 10 tablet? I downloaded the Nexus Media Importer which allowed me to transfer photos but my word documents just come through as a paper clip and will not open.

You will need to download an app to open your word documents. I recommend documents 2 go in the play store.

Docs 2 Go is good. So is Polaris Office. But why are you using Nexus Media Importer for Word docs? Much easier just to install Google Drive on your laptop and save your Word docs in your Google Drive folder. Then they will just show up on Google Drive on your Nexus 10.

Yup, the absolute easiest way to do it is with Google Drive.

From your computer, upload the files to the Google drive (you can either install the application or just upload them from the website), then you can open them directly from your tablet using the Google Drive app.

As mentioned above, QuickOffice (now owned by Google) is free and integrates with Google Drive and can also open non-Google Drive MS Office files as well, so you may want to install that.

Google Drive just becomes a folder on your PC after you install it -- save the doc there, and it will upload automatically.

Thanks for your suggestion.

I used DropBox to transfer the Microsoft Word files successfully from my desktop PC into my HTC Evo 4G and into my
Nexus 10.

However, when I want to open those transferred Word file in Nexus 10, it works only if Nexus 10 has WiFi access to
Internet. If I take Nexus 10 to a place where there is no WiFi Internet access, the Nexus 10 shows "Network error" and
cannot open the Word file.

Is there a way to store the transferred Word file in a way such that the Word file can be opened without WiFi internet access?

Assuming the document is actually stored on your phone, do you have an app on your phone to open Word documents? You can use QuickOffice. It is free.
