Transitioning over from Pre, need some help.

No, the phone doesn't automatically turn WiFi on when you turn mobile data off. Sprint's connection optimizer turns WiFi on periodically to try to find a WiFi hotspot to use. You can disable this in settings. If you disable connection optimizer, and turn both wireless data and WiFi off, they'll stay off.

I don't know why anyone would want to use a Smartphone this way, but that's your call.

I found it and turned it off, I'll wait and see if it works. I do it to conserve battery life, I don't get any critical emails that need immediate attention. And I just turno on the data connection when I want to surf the web or download emails. Been doing it with my Pre (which suffered from poor battery life) for years.
