Trouble connecting SIII to PC

I've had a couple of previous HTC android phones prior to getting my latest Samsung Galaxy S3. With the previous two phones, I had no problem just downloading the necessary driver in order for my PC to recognize it as a phone whenever I hooked it up via USB. When I try to hook up my Galaxy S3, however, my PC does not even recognize that a device has been plugged in! The strange part is that my phone realizes that it is connected and therefore begins charging itself and yet my PC does not recognize anything...Has anyone else experienced anything similar and willing to provide some help?

Thank you!

When plugged in do you see the usb symbol in the info bar?

That probably means the phone doesn't see your computer ether. Only thing I can think of is trying a different cord or a different port. Also if you have access to another computer try it there.

Thank you blade22222 for the quick response (seriously)! Unfortunately, I have tried both a different cord and a different port on my PC, and neither attempt has been successful.

Use the usb cord the phone came with and with Windows you may have to go to "my computer" to see my GS3. It won't show in the bottom right corner to let me know there is a device connected but it is. Try that if you're using windows. I don't know about macs

Make sure "usb debugging" isnt checked in developer options mate.
Have you downloaded the Kies programme? That can trigger the drivers to download.
Either that or just do a search for the drivers and download them.
If its for transferring media, an sd card and card reader is the best man.
Samsung software is crap imo

Drag your pull down menu down and tap the usb notification and select the option on top. I forgot what it says but there are two options once you tap the usb notification, so make sure u hit the top one

I had the same problem. I put sd card into pc and formatted. (Drag and drop data onto pc first.) Works fine now.

Haven't had any problems with this...just install the latest Samsung USB drivers for the phone on your PC, and it all seems to just work. It worked on Windows 7, and I just upgraded to Windows 8, installed the Samsung driver on that, and it works fine again. I can see both the internal and external SD cards in the phone, transfer files, etc.
