Trouble with Fingerprint Sensor

I find that the sensor won't work well when my fingers are stripped of oil, like after washing dishes. If I just rub my thumb on my forehead to re-grease it the sensor works fine again.

I'll give that a try, but like Little Squirt above, I got tired of the whole fingerprint thing - and i had to mess with it it every time I accidentally touched the on-off button - and switched to swipe.

Is there a way to set the device up so that if the fingerprint sensor has no match I can use a pattern swype or a 4 digit pin?

I wanted to know that too, but it seems that there isn't.

I have tried several bits of advice, using just the thumb for all but one. The only one that worked was the last finger I put in, the rest not. I've restarted the device, no difference. I will try all different fingers. Fingers crossed ha ha.

I recently picked up a Tab 2 8.0 after having being used to the fingerprint sensors on my OnePlus 3T & OnePlus 5 phones. I can't believe how poor the Samsung fingerprint sensor is in comparison (it has certainly put me off getting a Samsung phone unless they change it).
With the OnePlus I never ever have to retry, it just reads near-instantaneously every single time (including waking the phone). With the Samsung at least (and this is a very conservative start point) 30% of the time it fails. I've tried multiple re-registers, different fingers/thumbs and very little change. It also seems slothlike compared to the OnePlus. Such a shame as otherwise I am very happy with the tablet.
