True Dark Mode

So my Style finally got the update that enabled true blacks for notifications and the all apps screen, which I love as it looks great and saves me a bit of energy. But my Style died last night and when I turned it back on the backgrounds were grey again. What's the reason for that? Has anyone else seen this? Is there anyway to enable it myself?
