True story about how CHP + Android + Google Latititude saved the day

Based on my usage I would say close to real time the phone transmitting its location has GPS turned on and there is no interruption to satellite reception. Less frequent when the phone has to rely on cell tower triangulation and has poor reception.

what i have read is that when the phone detects it is not moving it is infrequent. when moving frequent.

I feel a bannination coming on --
Were the thieves black?

You are right. I have noticed that updates are less frequent when the phone isn't moving. Also noticed that the updates are faster when viewing them on a phone than on the latitude website.

wow huh what a bunch of scum bags. i am glad that you ended up getting everything back tho good job man. by the way I WOULD DEF call Verizon and tell them what happened and then you could most likely be able to get " what network do you trust " add out of this and what that means for you IS FREE VERIZON ****!

Would love to talk to Verizon, or Google, or anyone else interested, but I can't provide too many details to anyone since the DA has just begun prosecuting the offenders. I don't want to do anything to jeopardize the prosecution process.

I may be jumping the gun here but..... I see you said they were going South....gee what is South of California... oh wait, I know.... the land of law abiding citizens! No?

they were headed south on the border between OR and CA - so they were headed deeper into CA. Does that help?

latitude is very inaccurate and hardly ever updates. if this story is true you are so lucky. i feel google needs to do alot of work on the latitude feature as i find it useless

Why you gotta hit him with the "if this story is true" line? You didn't need to put that in to drop your comment. Why you stirring up the pot? LOL

Wow, just when I had thought that Google Latitude was a bad idea and huge invasion of privacy and big brother... this situation proves a unique advantage to Latitude.

I still won't enable it on my phone because I see no personal advantage and I'm single, but scenario's like yours are perfect for Google Latitude. It seems great for couples with Android phones.

Amazing story..
I'm actually going to install a gps tracker on my phone and hope someone takes it they'll have the guys with the blue lights taking them :D
