I'm going nuts. Moto g set up of trusted was quite easy compared to g4. On moto g I have trusted devices, faces and locations on. All work how I'd expect them to , when connected to a device or place the phone will turn of and when I want to open phone I press power and swipe open , no need for a pin code until out of range or device turned off.
I'm missing something so obvious on g4 but I can't see it, I always havevto enter pin code.
Can anyone help with a step by step guide from a site somewhere .

The G4 has the same thing...Settings > Lock Screen > Select Screen Lock. From there you can select what you want as far as the unlock method (Swipe doesn't seem to activate Smart Lock). Once you set an unlock method, the previously grayed out Smart Lock section will be active, and allow you to select Trusted Devices, Locations, Face, Voice, etc.

Yep. That's what I've been doing either with WiFi or mobile data just to make sure, but nothing works even trusted devices won't work. So I'm thinking something else somewhere.

Just been looking round went to locations and something about "my places" and set something in their which says it could take up to 5 days , so I'll wait 5 days and see. BUT still does not explain trusted devices .

Any more nuggets of help welcome. And thanks for the help so far.

Maybe it has something to do with how accurate your location is set to? I do think it needs a little work...when I first bought the phone a month ago, I set up a knock code, and set my home and work as Trusted Locations. Seemed to work fine at home, but allowed as much as a city block distance from my work for simple swipe to unlock, which I thought was a little much. Then, it reset itself to swipe to unlock instead of the knock code, which I thought was a little strange, but attributed it to me somehow doing it without realizing it as I'm still learning how this thing works. I left it because I live/work in a safe area, but when you asked the question, I decided to leave the knock code on after I went through the steps to write my reply. It swiped to unlock at work just fine. but the lock code stays on at home. ..go figure! Maybe it's waiting the five days. I did have my Location set to WiFi only, so reset it to High Accuracy just now, but no difference

Not sure what's going on. As far as I can see I have accuracy in locations. Unless anyone can help I'll just keep looking round

Strange, I have my home as a trusted place and Smart Lock enabled but when I wake the phone there is still the pattern lock.

Smart lock will automatically lock your phone after a few hours of inactivity. That is normal.

I'm not using Trusted Places. But I do have my car's Bluetooth set up as a Trusted Device. The device needs to be connected to the phone, then you can add it as Trusted.

It works well. The first time I unlock the phone in the car in a given session, I need to use my code. But after that, I can just swipe.

I understand all what you say and that was fine on the moto g but can't get it working on g4. Unless it's the phones fault or I can't see the wood for trees, but I can't see what else to do

Just to clarify. Trusted device.

Turn on Bluetooth on g4
Bluetooth on new device
G4 then finds device and pairs
G4 then asks about trusting new device
Trust the new device and in trusted devices list is the new device.
So all is set.
Now when connected to new device when the screen locks I should be able to just knock on g4 without inputting any code or pattern etc

BIG BIG BIG THANK YOU for all help. I've been a COMPLETE MUPPET now sorted. As I said earlier wood for the trees + frustration = muppet

You need to unlock it with your code once. Then after that, just swipe, etc. The next time that the phone finds that device again, you will once again have to unlock it once. Then swipe after that.

I don't understand, Smart Lock states "keep phone unlocked with trusted device or place". I don't want to unlock my phone when I'm at my home. I must be missing something here, what's the point of a trusted place if you still have to unlock your phone every time?

Don't understand it either. When I first bought the phone, it worked as it should (outside of a little location inaccuracy). Now it won't unlock without the knock code anywhere...gotta get to the bottom of this.

Still trying to work the kinks outta this...Seems like I have to open it with the Knock Code once from my Trusted Place to establish the location, then Swipe to open works. Doesn't matter if Data is on or off, Location set to High Accuracy.

If it's still not working, go to the Trusted Places and click Edit for the place you're trying to log in from. If it just shows a grid with no map, make sure WiFi or Data is on. That's as much as I could figure out. Like I said, when I first bought the phone, it worked seamlessly. Not I feel like I have to work at it a little more.

I have pattern lock, every time I wake it I have to draw the pattern...sucks. It has my home on the map when I hit edit...so all I can say is...G4 fail.

Same here, and would swear it was not like this when I bought it...weird:confused:.When I just booted it up this morning (in one of my phone's Happy Places), notification said "Finding Location", so I waited until that cleared out, but no change in requirement for Knock Code.

Ahh, I might have found the source of my problem, I have Screen Off utilized to work with Nova on the double tap to sleep function, apparently this nullifies the Trusted Places function. I turned off the app in Nova and it works just fine now!

According to the link, Smart Lock (if Trusted Places is what they're referring to) should work if the phone is turned off and on with the power button, but that doesn't seem to make a difference to my G4 unlocking with a swipe...still needs a knock code this morning while sitting in my Trusted Place. After a few tries, it finally "finds"me. I think there is some kind of connection with Location not seeing my location. I have to remember the next time this happens to quickly check Google Maps to see if it shows mt location accurately.
