Trying to decide. S5 or lg g3.

I guess other than the screen on the G3 that interested me was the knock on feature. I have a 2013 moto x right now and the active notifications are awesome as well as not having to hit a button to unlock the screen.
I think I am leaning heavily toward the s5. The only other contender may be the one M8. It's beautiful, and quite frankly I find the S5 ugly as sin. I prefer the proportions of the s5 better though. However, I plan to put a spigen neo case on the S5 anyway which looks fantastic.

If you have Moto X, what keeps you from waiting couple of more months and go with this year's flagship like S6 or G4? If I were you, I would go that way.

That is certainly not bad advice. I have a feeling the S6 is going to be very competitive.

More just the end of contract coming up so I've been researching. I can probably swing it to wait though. My fear is that phones are going to keep getting bigger and bigger and I think slightly over 5" screen is my max. I only considered theG3 because it was relatively compact for 5.5". But I guess if I find a way to wait it out with my carrier and don't want any of the new flagships, the S5 will be cheaper.

Don't fear, I think there will be plenty of good options in the 4.7" - 5.3" for a good while yet. Not everyone likes my beloved 5.5"+ palmtops.

I would wait and get the LG G Flex 2. Early reviewers are falling in love with it. The specs are awesome.

If you have a Moto X, I don't see any reason to get another 2014 phone. It's a lateral move at best.

Yeahp. Can't wait for it to hit AT&T.

I would also say the G3.

I work with a lot of phones and was previously on a S3, tried out the s5 for quite a while and didn't see that much of a difference software wise. Decided to get the G3 because the lovely bezel size, screen quality, video quality and LG UI....definitely made the right choice.

Got a bit bored with touchwhiz and the fact that my S3 randomly died after treating it like my first born child left a sour taste in my mouth lol.

I may see if I can stretch out the contract till something comes up new.
I have the original moto x though with 1.7ghz dual core and 720p 4.7 screen etc etc. So a G3 or S5 would be a decent upgrade. But I do hate getting a phone on a new contract when new flagship phones are on the horizon. I hate waiting though. lol

Thanks so much for everyone's replies.

I'm entitled to an opinon lol

I know you are entitled to your opinion and I wasn't saying that your opinion is wrong, I was clearing some things up though as your statements made it sound like the display resolutions mattered (like I said, pixel densities don't matter once you get above ~340, all phones will look the same with pixel densities of ~340 and higher) and that the G3 was made of brushed metal (it isn't). Just clearing up the facts, not your opinion.

I understand. What I meant is that it has a brush metal feel. I know it's made of plastic. As for the resolution it is noticeably Better (to me) but that doesn't mean that the s5 resolution is bad. They are both great. I had an s4 and s5 and wasn't impressed at all. Touchwiz is ok and Not much change between them. I have a Samsung tablet and love it. The super amoled display kicks ****. I think the New s6 is going to bring in some real competition it's going to be made of metal. But yes between the s5 and g3 the g3 wins (in my opinion) . I value yours as well :)

I really hope samsung sticks with the trademark of removable battery for future devices lol. I dont want it to be a unibody though

I prefer the Super AMOLED screen on the S5. I also like the convenience of having a removable battery. I don't think QHD is ready for primetime. 😒

I would go to G3... in my opinion s5 have overheating problems...

No, the S5 does not have any heating problems.

Only those phones that have a run-a-way app are experiencing heating problems.
(My S5 and my wife's S5 always feel cool to the touch regardless of what we are doing.
I have owned my S5 since release day, 14 April 2014.)

The only exception is when the battery is being charged. The biggest fix for that is to try and recharge at about 40%-50% (less time to full charge, thus less heat)
-or-
as I did, install a Qi wireless charger. The reason a Qi charger helps is the charge rate is ~730 to ~760 mA depending on model of Qi charger. I have 3 of them, just replaced a "weak Qi charger last night" with a very good one from FoneSalesman.

Back to the charge rate, at only ~750 mA charge rate, the battery is not being pushed hard enough to generate a lot of heat. That is good. It does take a bit longer, but I sleep about 10 times longer than the charger takes so who cares?

I won't repeat all the good points of the S5. I will show that the S5 can have extremely good battery life when in an idle condition. I am quite sure the LG G3 can do the same thing, but I have never owned an LG smartphone. I do have an LG flip phone, battery life on it was good, not great.

This is a typical battery discharge rate for my wife's S5. She only uses it for a telephone, nothing else.

I'm not sure but I think my Note 4 may disagree. Hold on....

Yeahp, she disagrees. She says if all QHD displays can look as good as hers that they're ready for prime time. She seemed pretty confident in that too.

Though the G3 screen looks very sharp with QHD resolution, it's rather dull looking with low contrast. Also there are numerous reports that it will dim further when phone is pushed hard. I was real close to getting G3 but dull looking screen and feedbacks on not so great battery life swayed me to S5. QHD + S801 doesn't look like good combo for graphic performance.

For me FHD screen at 5.1" looks more than sharp enough and S5 screen has high contrast, brightness and color really pops in good way. You can also choose from different color modes for your liking. I'm happy with S5's screen, camera and battery life. But if S6 goes full uni-body with sealed battery and G4 keeps removable battery, I will likely switch to LG.

QHD displays can be nice but their implementation on some devices doesn't somehow make all the wonderful FHD displays bad. FHD is still remarkably sharp and has the benefit of being easier on batteries and chipsets. G3, I'm looking at you. All phones aren't as powerful as the Note 4.

Just for the record one of my friends has an s5 and I held my g3 up to her phone and there is a huge difference in resolution. In fact, she was super jealous lol. S5 still a great phone but anyone who thinks this 5.5 quad hd display doesn't show is just jealous and in denial lol

Love the s5 but currently using an LG g2 so I will say get the g3. I feel like LG gives you a little more customization ability without rooting like moving dock icon, etc. Both are awesome devices.
