Okay, so I did the whole gingerbread update and found it very lacking any luster at all...sluggish response, bad touchscreen response even with the application that was suggested to 'overclock' the touch screen sensitivity. It worked but...it wasn't like the vanilla froyo screen response. So...I decided tonight to go back to froyo and then root, flash and all that other stuff to get onto ZEUS with the ics theme...except that I can never get my phone to reboot after doing a backup with rom manager... so this is what I did.

I went searching around the internet to get some advice/knowledge about doing this, so naturally I went straight to xda and followed their advice.

*Downloaded super1click and rooted my phone. - Great. Took all of 2 minutes and my phone is rooted.
*Downloaded Root Explorer. - Great. Installed and was able to look around everywhere.
*Followed instructions about getting recovery. Download Recovery file, drop it into the phone's internal sd drive (while connected to the computer with debug usb mode) Go into phone and copy file from sdcard into the system>bin>recovery (rename Recovery.old to keep original file)
*Download Rom Explorer - Great. Followed instructions. click on make recovery (or whatever it is called) use galaxy i9000 (or something like that, talking from memory as my phone doesn't have any of this on it at the moment. more on that later). It does its thing and says it is done. It gives me the version 2.5.1.2
*Then I click on "reboot into recovery" to reinstall something. (I forgot what it was called...mainly because I NEVER got there.)

On the last step my phone always freezes on the samsung splash screen and it won't proceed further. Requires me to use G2G to unbrick my phone...did this 4 times tonight and followed the instructions given on the videos that were links in the XDA forum post for rooting and installing custom ROMs/O.S...What am I doing incorrectly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It was a while ago and I don't remember the specifics, so don't shoot the messenger!

I think my problem was one of the downloaded files. I remember deleting all the rooting programs/files from my PC and downloading them again. Also I did the two volume buttons plus the power/lock button to go into recovery instead of using rom explorer. The explorer app had a conflict with my system so I uninstalled it and used (I think, so don't quote me) Titanium backup to backup my apps and other things. after I did that the backup process and flashing worked perfectly. I've done about 3 different installs in the past month with no problem or accidental bricking.

I hope that helps,
