I have the Verizon Samsung S3 SCH-i535 4.1.2
Baseband i535VTBMB1
Kernel version 3.0.31-861013
Hardware Version i535.10
It is rooted (and confirmed to be rooted)

Disclaimer- I am not remotely an "expert" on mobile phones but I do follow directions fairly well.

I rooted my phone yesterday with the intention of using a tethering app Wifi Tether Version 3.2-beta2 ***BETA***
www.android-wifi.tether-googlecode.com
This app has the yellow arching lines icon, I also have the related app "Wireless Tether" with the Green arching lines icon.

I originally installed these apps on a prior rooted S3 which was made obsolete when Verizon air updated on 3/5/13. I just got this replacement phone so I rooted it and installed the above referenced tethering apps. The first time I did it on the previous phone it worked fine without any adjustments. I don't even recall having to select the phone. However, this time the apps seem to be functioning but my laptop is not recognizing either version. Additionally, I installed the ISWAT unlock tethering app but the tethering apps are still not displaying on the laptop.

Since the air update occurred in early March, any forum posts or instructions prior to that date on the subject are obsolete. Does anyone know how to set these apps to work or even recommend others which will work?

You know you don't need root to use the mobile hotspot feature on the s3 without being charged by Verizon. There are two options. One is to use foxfi which is a paid app in the play store or the free way which is to use a hotspot toggle like fattin hotspot toggle which bypasses Verizon's terms of usage and let's you use the stock hotspot feature. I use the toggle method and have been for months with my unrooted s3 and have not been charged

Yes I use Trev E wifi tether quite often. I backed it up with Titanium backup when I was running Synergy and now I can use it on any rom. It's most definetely the best wifi tether app out there. Has lots of options and hasn't failed me yet.
