Here is the older phone info app that allows you to turn off LTE. You will have to enable sideloading.

Uh, Mark - both the link to the article and the View/Download buttons worked fine for me. And the apk was 9KB (9,244 bytes).

One quick note about using this app... It works fine for disabling 4G/LTE, however if you want to go back and turn 4G/LTE on again, it fails to do so (at least it does with my, and many other devices since JB).

To go back to to normal operation with 4G, go to "Settings --> More Settings (under Wireless and Network) --> Mobile Networks --> Network Mode". Set Preferred Network Mode to: "CDMA/LTE/EVDO" (I believe "Global" works as well).

This worked fine for me until I "upgraded" my S3 to 4.3. Now I get an "unfortunately the app has stopped" when I try to run it. Any updates or other solutions?

I would have suggested Advanced Signal Status: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.cc.signalinfo but since 4.3 it requires your phone to be rooted. :-(
