Turn off wifi automatically when leave home?

Does your wifi radio turn on every time you unlock your phone (after its disconnected)? seems like it would be annoying.

It depend on how you set it, the setting i posted was just a sample one. You can script it such that it will only turn off wifi if and only if it's not connected to a network(you can set it to a specific one or 'any'). I have my phone set up this way, when i'm home the wifi is on always, when i'm home it detects that i'm no longer connected to my home network and would turn off wifi up on screen close.

I downloaded this since it seemed really light on resource use and simple. However I can't find any options to turn off when not connected to my home network. It seems just like a list of networks by strength and location.

I think it maybe time to try macro Droid!

How do these settings look? I'm not sure if the location thing is working since I just came back home and while I saw the GPS trying to do its thing when I was coming up the elevator, it never actually turned on the wifi.

Only other question I have is how much will the location based macro keep checking the GPS? Is it just based on the location Google and other services identify over the course of the day?

There's a setting that you can configure how often it check for location butI wouldn't use Location, it would probably be a battery drainer.

what you can do is configure it like this:
Trigger: on Screen on
Action: turn on wifi
constraint: none

Trigger: on screen off
Action: turn off wifi
Constraint: Wifi Connected(you can set it to your home network)

with this set up the wifi is turn on when you use your phone, it keep the wifi on when you're home, when you're not home it should detected that it's no longer connected to your home net work and turn it off when your screen is off.

I use Trigger, as well as Tasker.
Trigger is easier, but can call Tasker commands. Tasker can make dinner for you with the number of commands available.

Tasker is your best bet.. I have mine setup via location. Anytime I leave my house, it turns off and anytime I'm home it turns on. Very easy.

I've used Tasker since my HTC thunderbolt days. It doesn't have to be complicated to get simple things done. They have a Tasker wiki full of examples to use

According to the recent report on Android Central, there is no advantage in keeping WiFi off, right?

No, but I do occasionally get an annoying screen asking me if I want so connect to so-and-so network that is available. So, I end up turning WiFi off when I'm out at a mall, or some other 'public square'.

Settings / wifi. Turn off the top option, "show wifi pop-up".

Macrodroid

So far so good with the below macro on a rooted nexus 4.

Wi-Fi On
T: Tower(s) in range
A: Enable Wi-Fi, Data Off
C: None

YouBlue React can do this for you if you connect to Bluetooth (in your car). It can also turn on Bluetooth when you lose WiFi connection and launch an app.

The way I use it:
When driving away from home, WiFi disconnects, so it turns on Bluetooth. It connects to my car, which triggers it to launch Pandora. When Bluetooth disconnects, it turns off Bluetooth. I don't use the WiFi toggle, but it's supported.
