As of some time tonight, Verizon has lit up Tuscaloosa with LTE! I'm getting about 10/1.5 at the moment, which isn't too bad. I don't know about coverage, but the signal looks good just south of UA.

Finally!

Congrats! May be they're doing testing yet and the speeds will improve once they fully turn it up. :)

I haven't done any speed tests for a while, just did a couple now and hit 14-16 down, 8-10 up (using the Birmingham server). Sweet!

I'm sure it's still in testing, since I haven't heard anything about new markets coming soon, and the coverage map still only shows 3G.

I wonder if they'll light up 20/59 between Tuscaloosa and Birmingham. And, with not too much more effort, they could extend LTE from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham, then on to Cullman and Huntsville. That would be an awesome footprint!

It's official! :) From Verizon's News website: Verizon Wireless Is Bringing The Power Of Its 4G LTE Network To Tuscaloosa, Alabama

"Verizon Wireless today announced it is bringing the nation’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to Tuscaloosa in the coming weeks. With the 4G LTE network, customers can use 4GLTE wireless devices in Tuscaloosa to access the Internet faster; listen to music or watch video on their phones; use thousands of apps; and stay in touch with family and friends, all with speeds up to 10 times faster than before.

When Verizon Wireless turns on its 4G LTE network in Tuscaloosa, customers who live or visit the city of Tuscaloosa, including the University of Alabama campus, as well as Northport, Cottondale and Alberta City will have access to the nation’s fastest 4G network."

P.S - Auburn as well (Verizon Wireless Is Bringing The Power Of Its 4G LTE Network To Auburn, Alabama). War Eagle! :p

Thank God, I'm from Starkville, MS and I travel to Tuscaloosa on the weekends and Verizon is so terrible there, slow speeds, terrible reception. Maybe this will make things better.

Congrats. I was getting those speeds when Denver first got 4G about a year ago. Now I get 6mbps down and 700 kbs up.
