Tweaked Nook Tablet vs N2A NC: Tablet Wins!

At least for me it does.

When I heard that the Tablet could be tweaked by sideloading 3rd party apps, I decided to go ahead and get one in case B&N ever decides to close that loophole via an upgrade some day. I've been working on it for a couple of days now, and I'm glad to say I'm pleased with the results. So pleased in fact, that I doubt I'll ever buy an n2a card for it should they ever create one.

I've always preferred the native reader to the Nook app - mainly because of the shelving feature and the read-and-play books. With the n2a card, I stayed on the android side of the NC so I had to reboot the device in order to access the native reader. But now I can access both worlds - so to speak - with just a couple of clicks of a button. I can stay with the native reader and access my favorite android apps with just a couple of clicks. Much easier than rebooting the device in order to change over. This way, everything's literally at my fingertips. Yay!!!!

I've got a nook tablet and I just got a 16gig microSD card(class4) from Radio Shack for the nook. Frankly, I have no idea what I'm doing but I want to be able to side load some amazon apps and other apps because the B&N app selection frankly is rather sparse. In all honesty, I'm not even sure what side-loading is but I think it means formating an sd card on the desktop and inserting it in the nook-T. I want to side load music from a philips itune player and a calender app, plus some free books from other sources besides B&N. I have no clue where to start. What is the Guttenberg project and where do I find it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a Bunch.

Edit to add: Did my homework and I've been able to now have access to all Amazon Apps and Kindle books without rooting. Just adjusting the settings to accept 3rd party downloads. I've downloaded EZ Loader and ZDBOX android toolbox plus google maps. everything just works perfectly so far. I can easily call up either the Nook Home Screen or the EZ Loader home screen overlayed on my wallpaper. Bought a e-book from Amazon as well as some apps. This is what I was hoping the Nook Tablet would turn out to be. I'm very hap-hap-happy.

With this EZ loader can you get the real android market without doing a full root?

no,........ you can't get Android market with just a side load. Now that I know more about what I'm doing, I realize that android market is a specific place on google that people refer to. When I posted that, I was stoked that I had access to all these various android applications from different sources other than B&N. That's what I was refering to when I said Android Market. Sorry for the confusion caused by my ignorance. For the record, I haven't missed the "real" android market with the access I have to other sources for download of android apps. :)

Maybe someone can help - I have a Nook Tablet and have already sideloaded a nice amount of apps. However one which I was really looking forward to is Google Music...it installs and opens fine, but I can't find any way to sync my cloud music collection. :( First thing I checked is settings and it almost seems cut off at the top - I don't know if I'm missing something there that would make it work. I tried once again with the newest version 4.1.511 posted on apktop today but no joy. Rebooting the Nook doesn't help either.

Any input appreciated, thanks!!! This is my first Android device so I'd love to have this app working properly.

Where do you adjust the setting for 3rd party downloads? I have seen this stated elsewhere but cannot find any such setting on the Nook Tablet.

Thanks

where do you adjust the setting sto acept 3rd party downloads. I can't find such a setting anywhere in the Nook Tablet's settings area.

Hate to bust your bubble but read this thread.....

http://forums.androidcentral.com/no...eportedly-breaks-root-blocks-sideloading.html

What you are trying to do is sideloading...... what you need to do is a full root

If i read correctly the sideload may still work but you need to do extra steps which makes the full root sound like a safer move

follow the instructions to the letter and you'll be good to go. Keep your WiFi off until; you're ready to do the install then install all the apps you want. The whole process should take less than 15 minutes. Shut off your Wi Fi when you're done. The easy fix to block the upgrade to 1.4.1 is not quite ready yet. Give the Devs a little time to refine the process. I've got all the apps and books I need at the moment and haven't turned my wifi on in two days. Check your "device" in the settings menus and insure that you've still got 1.4. If you've got 1.4.1 you'll have to do the 8 boot/interupted method to restore to 1.4. Just remember, they can't download an update if your WiFi is shut off. You should be able to do the 3rd party install before they download the upgrade. Good luck

I recommend you browse the forums that distribute the apps you may want on your desk or laptop and make a list. Then sideload all at once to your nook tablet after you've done the 3rd party install and then turn your Wifi off. One good thing, the upgrade still allows all sideloaded apps to work if they were installed prior to the upgrade installing. So if you sideload the kindle app it will still function after the upgrade.
