Two lock screen pages and opening an app from its notification

Hi all. I've had my G3 for two weeks and I have some questions. I'll create separate posts for each one, but please let me know if it's preferred on this forum to put multiple questions in one post.

When the lock screen shows notifications, it uses a second page, other than the page with the circled clock. Is there a setting to use a single page?

Also, when the second page has a notification (e.g. missed call), swiping the notification right does nothing, swiping left switches to the circled clock page, and tapping the notification clears the page and shows the message "Swipe in any direction to launch app." I don't get it...swiping the notification does not launch the app (phone dialer/log).
