Two possible issues?

I found that it takes me several days to get the optimal battery life. When I install apps or set them up I forget to change the sync settings, which kills my battery. For example I bought the phone on launch day and today I noticed my phone was losing charge at 3% an hour, the same as my original razr did. Obviously this can't be right so I checked some apps and forgot to change my score mobile sync from every 2 min. to never and some of my k9 mail syncs I also forgot to change. Now that I changed them I'm getting a battery drop of about 1% per hour with light use.

Very good advice for everyone. In my case that is the first thing I do after my initial set up. Its one of the big reasons why I switched exclusively to using gmail except for that one pop account.

Have any of you tried switching from global data to LTE? I have the original MAXX and was considering an upgrade. One of the Verizon techs helped me fix a similar battery problem by turning the global off and switching to LTE. It has an effect on how much tower switching goes on. You should also turn ON roaming. Unless you are traveling abroad, these two tweaks should help with battery life and signal strength. Note: These may take a restart to take effect.

The other thing you should remeber to do is shut down apps by using the back button or properly exiting an app if it has an exit function. If you use the home button to exit an app, you could be leaving multiple apps running in the background. This would solve the heat issue AND your battery drain problem.

Yes. First thing I did before I left Verizon.

Wanted to give an update. The whole battery thing was really bothering me, I didn't feel like I should have to baby a battery almost twice the size of my Nexus when it's the whole reason I got the phone. I took it back, argued that I shouldn't have to pay a restocking fee and then was told I was only allowed one exchange. I was back and forth on if if to give this phone another try but decided to take a chance. It was a good decision. So far I am at 16hrs on battery at only down to 70%, on the other phone I was at 7%. Apparently there are a few dud batteries out there and I am really glad I decided to return the first. You guys were very helpful with suggestions and info so wanted to be sure to share the final results.

What are your complete battery stats for the 16 hours? What is your screen on time and 4G/3G/wi-fi, etc.? I am trying to see if I am in a similar boat as you.

I returned my phone yesterday and demanded an exchange due to battery life and my belief that I had a bum unit. The new phone has done better but still not exactly thrilled (53% remaining after 14 hours, 39 minutes).. Then I realized that I needed to stop Maps from constantly updating my. I also had not taken the phone off of global mode yet. I just took some screen shots and will update this thread tomorrow. The comparison I do will be interesting.

My maps doesn't appear to do this. Did you open maps up and than agree to share location updates when you setup the phone? The setting to disable isn't even offered to me and I assume its because I never enabled that.

Edit- that's what it was.

I just did this last night. Mine was set to automatically update my locations also. I mentioned this in the battery testimonials thread.

Any negative effects from doing this?
