Two weeks in and thinking about returning

Had my G3 for just about two weeks now and unfortunately am thinking of returning it. Why? One thing- battery life. Everything else about it I love. The screen is fantastic, form factor is great, and the phone is very, very responsive. I have previously owned nothing but iPhones and even tried a 6 Plus but the phone was just too big. Returned that and when I saw the G3 at the A T and T store I immediately knew I wanted it. I do have a Nexus 7 so I am familiar with Android and have used Nova Prime on the tablet for about a year now. Tried the stock launcher on the G3 but pretty quickly switched to Nova.

Here is the problem. I simply have an impossible time getting a full day out of the battery with only moderate use. And overnight if the phone is fully charged and unplugged it loses almost 50 percent of its battery. The culprit is the Android OS and I have tried many things to alleviate the problem but nothing seems to work. I have restarted the phone, left if off, etc. with no success. I have tried removing as many apps as possible and disabling auto sync but that doesn't fix the problem either. I know it is not normal and if I could just fix it I would love to keep the phone but I am just about at the end of my two week period for returns. Any one have any other ideas which could help me? I will try pretty much anything but rooting the phone because of the possibility of having to return it.

Have you tried a factory reset?

I have not. How do I go about that? And will it remove all the A T and T bloatware that came with the phone? I do not think they are causing the battery drain but it couldn't hurt to get rid of them.

Settings > General > backup./reset

It returns your phone to how it came when you first bought it.

Some Bloat can be disabled but full removal requires root access and a few other apps like titanium backup. Plenty of threads about The process on this page and the 2nd page of G3 forum

Thanks. just got back from the A T and T store and they are giving me at least another week to try and resolve the problem so that is good. One thing I am wondering if auto sync is causing a lot of the problems? Really the only one I really care about is my email account which is a Microsoft Exchange account. I am having a hard time figuring out how to just have that one sync and turn off the other. If I turn off auto sync can I just have the email account sync somehow. I tried going into the Microsoft Exchange account and I do not see an option to turn it on. Just a touch to sync now option.

Did you check the Usage Monitor app to see what's using up battery power? Screen on time should be on the top of the list. If something is listed higher, that's the culprit. One thing you can't do much about is signal strength. The weaker your signal, the more power your phone is putting out to communicate with the tower. But that's a problem for all phones, not just the LG G3. The battery on my G3 certainly lasts a lot longer than on my previous phone, HTC One (M7) under the same conditions of location and usage.

Have you tried ruling out the battery? The Store you purchased the phone at might be willing to swap out battery for another one. Also, when you say the "Culprit is the Android OS" what is the usage percentage for it?

***Can you post screenshots of your battery use.

Not sure how to post a screenshot. But checking my battery monitor app has consistently shown Android OS being around 30% of battery use and then Android System being about 10% Adding the two gives me 40% with Screen use being around 40% as well. Of course overnight when the phone is not being used and I go from 100% to around 50 or 55% it is all Android OS and Android system. I have noticed the numbers improving somewhat since turning off auto sync. They also removed the battery over at the store so that reset everything as well. And they looked to see if they had a replacement battery at the store but no luck.

To take a screen shot: Hold power button & volume down simultaneous. Just for comparison my system is:
Screen: 51%
Android OS: 15%
Android System: 3%

If you click on "Android OS" it should also give you "Awake" time & "CPU"

With all that said, I get through the day on a full charge. What is strange is the drop you get overnight, that is not normal. I think you your email might be checking constantly, try different options. I have 6 email accounts, but I have it set to sync every 6 hours. If I am expecting an important email or need to check email, I sync manually.

There's definitely something wrong if you're losing that much charge overnight. Not so much with the device, as with how you've got things set up perhaps, or as Ricky suggests, the battery.
Excuse me if you know this, but a screenshot on the G3 is made by pressing the power button and volume-down at the same time. Then, to post it, check B. Diddy's guide:

I know this may be a silly question, but how is your signal? I can charge my phone, take it off at 10 pm and by 6 am when I wake I'm still at 100. My os use is 12% and system is 5%. If all else fails see if at&t will swap phone out. Bateery life varies buy I can easily get a day use with 4-5 hours screen on,with 2 one exchange email and one gmail both on push.

Something's not right dude I have owned. Mine now about 2 weeks and I only lose about 3 percent overnight. And when I'm at work with zero signal most time I still only lose about 20 percent streaming music on work WiFi

This is what I usually get a day. The battery life on the g³ has been satisfying to me. I think they gave you a crappy phone if you're not getting decent to above average battery life.

Something is f***ed up with your phone, or the way you use it, bro. Please take the suggestions given to you.

Overnight I put the phone in "sleep" mode and lose 1 or 2% battery if fully charged, unplugged. Skip the store and call ATT escalate support until you get someone technical that knows what they're doing. At least with T-Mobile that's what I would do! As mentioned may be bad hardware.Or perhaps ATT ROM nonsense.

Appreciate all the responses. I will go ahead and take a screenshot and post it after leaving the phone unplugged tonight. That is the part which shows me something is going on. I have turned off auto syncing so maybe that will do it.

Well I left the phone unplugged overnight with auto sync turned off and got very similar results. Battery went from 100 percent to 55. Here are the screenshots.

Any thoughts on why the operating system is using all my battery. What else can I turn off? As I said in my post I have a nexus 7 so I am not completely new to android but this is my first android phone.
