Hi all, I installed twrp to my rooted s4 and anytime I boot into recovery it freezes on the teamwin screen.

Silly question but have you double checked to make sure your running the proper and newest version of TWRP for the S4? Also checked the TWRP official website for any known problems that could be causing this.

Related question: I thought my toolkit installed TWRP when I rooted. Would it just show as an app?

I have 2.5.0.3 installed

Not sure what the newest one is but I installed it through GooManager and I just checked for updates and none were available

No TWRP will not show up as an app. Its written into your device as your recovery or " custom " recovery so if you attempt to boot into recovery and you end up in TWRP then you good to go.

Yep. Found it by rebooting into recovery from ROM Manager.

I am having the same problem as the OP except that TWRP worked the day I installed it. I used it to install SuperSU and the SetUID restriction workaround. The versions I used a few days ago when I rooted my phone are listed below but today when I hold volume up and power to boot into recovery TWRP freezes on the opening splash screen:

openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.3-jfltetmo.tar
CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip
MDB-SetUIDOff.zip
