Txt message background keeps randomly disappearing and turning gray - galaxy S3

I have the samsung galaxy s3 and have an image set at my background for texting. Every once in a while, at least once a day now, the image disappears and turns this gray color. I've tried going back into the settings and re-setting it and it keeps doing it all the time, as well as restarting the phone several times. Sometimes it only does it to certain message threads and not others. Anyone know how to fix this? My roommate has the same phone and she said hers has never done that before. Not sure if there is something wrong with mine specifically or if there is a glitch that I can easily fix in the settings somewhere. Thanks!!

Have you tried a different image? It's possible something's flaky with the image file you set as a background.

Happens to me too, its very irritating. I have tried many backgrounds and it still does it.
