Has anyone tried typing on the Nexus 7 in landscape mode on a desk like a traditional laptop? I was just wondering if anyone has tried is and what was the experience like. I have learned to do this quite well on my iPad but didn't know if the size of the Nexus made much of a difference.

I have large fingers, and I can just barely do this on the Nexus 7. It's not at all easy, though, and my typing speed is pretty horrible.

However, to give you an idea, I cannot type AT ALL on an iPhone-sized screen and my Thunderbolt (4.2") is just barely large enough to keep me sane. So your mileage may vary.

Maybe when the bigger Nexus tablet comes out this will be a possibility.

Possibly.

About the only way to know for sure is to go to somewhere there is a display of 7" Android tablets, put one in landscape, and start banging away. Pick a fairly recent/high-end one because the $100 ones are going to lag pretty badly.

I use voice recognition on mine a bit, and it's pretty OK most of the time if sometimes hilariously wrong... I also use the Swype beta, and while there is some lag in touch mode, the swipe mode means I can enter stuff pretty fast one-fingered.

That is one of the attractive things about android that iOS doesn't have and that is swype. That would be perfect for a tablet. Have you tried this on a Nexus tablet?

I too have a hard time typing on a phone. Swype has literally saved the day for me on my thunderbolt because even with my fat fingers, my index finger tracing out words works really, really well.

Strongly suggest Swype or something similar. (I'm assuming it works on jelly bean though. I don't have a 7 yet.). It's weird at first, but it's awesome once you get used to it.

Simply because of Swype, I wouldn't consider an iPad or iPad Mini. It's made that much of an improvement for me.

Ye ah I found that I can do a pretty good job voice typing. I lose a little bit of time because of the need to go back and edit. but still it's not too bad.

What do you do when you are in an environment where you can't use your voice? Like at a conference.

Yes, Swype Beta loads just fine on my Nexus 7 and works very well.

So drop $200 on a Nexus and join the Dark Side. :D

Just for the ability to use Swype? Probably not. But it is tempting. I was just wondering how different the experience would be if I had a Galaxy Nexus and a Nexus 7 over my iPhone 4S and iPad 3?

I just received the folding Bluetooth keyboard I ordered for my Nexus 7. It folds up smaller than the N7 itself, and seems to work perfectly.

The keyboard isn't 100% standard, and its going to take a bit of practice finding the right touch to register nut not repeat -- but it's WAY better than thumb typing for anything longer than a quick text.

My laptop will never leave home again. lol

i just used my nexus to type in landscape using ultimate orientation. worked fine. i have massive hands, one of my friends calls me Megatron hands, but typing in landscape was fine, a lil cramped but fine. I also type wonderfully on the iphone and ipad for that matter.

What's ultimate orientation?
