Uber app question

I have the Uber app on my Note 8 and will be getting a Gear S3 watch soon. I have read that you have to download the app for the watch and companion app for the phone. As I already have the Uber app on my phone will I need to delete the current app on the phone and then install the Uber companion app to the watch on the phone?
