I'm having a bit of a printer problem here and wondering if any of my A/C brethren can help out.
Here's the details: I have 8 Acer laptops that will not run windows. They start booting but then crash. I've found that they will run Ubuntu 9.10 perfectly, however. They will not upgrade to 10.xx, for some reason they crash at the same point as when they are attempting to boot Windows XP.
So Ubuntu 9.10 does what we need it to do (light web surfing and word processing). The problem is that I cannot get our hp p1102w laserjet to print. I downloaded and installed the hplip 3.11.5, and I've got the laptop to where it recognizes the printer, connects to it, but cancels the print job and gives me an error message that a cups filter is missing, "foomatic-rip-hplip". We are trying to be able to print over wifi, but I have also tried connecting with usb but to no avail.
I've updated cups using the apt-get commands, and that returns a message that cups is up to date.
I'm not sure where to go from here. I would consider myself a rookie when it comes to linux, but I do know how to use google, and I am comfortable with the command line. I've done a lot of searching, tried a lot of different solutions, but still no joy.
Any thoughts? Any more info you need me to give?
