With the lens on this Note you have to choose what you want in focus if its close to you. I think with landscapes its a different story.

Card is in focus in the first photo. In the second the case is in focus.

I was noticing that some of my closer shots were coming out blurry on the left side which I attributed to depth of field but then sometimes the overall image was also not sharp so I thought maybe the lens was decentered. I found something on Youtube today that said to to turn off touch vibrations in the camera settings which speeds up the shutter so there is no lag which has led to much sharper images. However video on mine is horribly over exposed and very grainy and images still are not great so as much as I love everything else about this phone it is going back and I am back to my iphone. I do not doubt like all electronics there are some that will have great phones and others not due to sample variation. I just find the iphone images to have more richness and depth and they do not blow highlights like crazy which has been the downfall of all my Samsung phones.
