Android Central Question

I have bought a refurbished unlocked s6 and everything works except it won't connect to mobile data (4g, 3g or 2g) I've tried reboots, software updates and calling my provider for help and no real solution found, can anyone help.
I think it's the data settings but I don't know how to fix.
I've even tried to add a new Tesco mobile apn no luck
Any help would be amazing
Ta 😊

Just to add my provider have tried to send me the internet connections settings link several times in 4 day and I haven't received it, I have checked all messages emails and calls in and outbound do work so I am not sure why I can't get this message so if anyone knows these instructions that may help.

You say it won't connect, does it show any of those when the phone is idle just powered on? Does it say LTE/4G, 3G, etc etc? Devices even without service I think will display these symbols even if not connected to them, just to show they're present. I think...

Please follow this order. It will help narrow down the issue and will possibly point to the problem.

Have you tried going into the settings and resetting the network settings?
Settings>General management>Reset>Reset network settings. This isn't like a factory reset, it only resets the items that deal with communication settings. I would imagine that this was one of the steps your carrier asked you to do, but if not...

Have you installed any apps on the device? Are any of these apps Data savers, battery savers, antivirus or malware related?
These apps usually work the opposite of what they claim and can cause issues similar to this.

To test if it might be app related you can try the device in Safe Mode. This link will describe how to get your device into safe mode... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...base-174859/&usg=AOvVaw1eC7kmb2oleQZdpD1RE5cL

Once in safe mode check your data connection. If it works in safe mode but not in regular mode the issue may be app related. If you still don't have a data connection there's a chance it is hardware or carrier related.

If the issue persists through all the above mentioned, try resetting the settings. This will also be on the reset screen we navigated to in the first step. Like the first step this isn't like a factory reset but it will remove any customizations you've made, like wallpapers, colors, ring tones and the like, without removing all data from the device.

Hi,
I have reset the settings a couple of times but the other options I haven't done, I will try all of these today.
Please bear with me as I won't be quick due to making sure I do this right (I'm not a great techy) lol and I will be off Wi-Fi at times .
I really appreciate your help and I will come back either way.

Thank you very much for this as I'm running out of ideas! 😊

Hi I forgot to mention it does say lte/3g etc but refuses to accept it! I will try your advice fingers crossed ??????

Well that's promising. If it can see network data signals then it should just be a matter of getting you connected or figuring out why you're not able to send or receive over the network. Let us know what you find, we'll leave the light on.

Well that was my thought process! What I'll do is go through your points tomorrow when I'm off shift rather than try to do them when I find a Wi-Fi spot!
Ha ha thanks I'll try to be quiet when I get in!
I really appreciate your help!
To Keirstan, I tried the apn several times and was gutted it didn't work! Thank you for the help!

Is your refurbished phone GSM or CDMA? Does your carrier support your new device for sure? Did you reuse a sim card? Was it from a Apple phone if so?

What's the exact model number of the phone in Settings>About Phone? There are a bunch of variants for that phone, and some of them might not support the network bands used by Tesco.

Sorry I don't know what GSM or CDMA are!
The SIM is from a Samsung and is accepted in this phone, I can call and receive calls messages and emails etc... my provider has checked and confirmed the SIM is compatible.
SM G920F is the model, I've used this model before with the same SIM so I am lost!
I'll try what the guys have advised tomorrow and come back with update.

You mentioned that you tried the APN settings and it didn't work. Do you mean that you made sure the APN was correct for Tesco Mobile, or that you tried to edit it and it didn't let you?
