Yeah, I was wondering if it might be a scoped storage issue -- but I thought that wouldn't affect something like a music player. With scoped storage, I think the music player would have to create its own music directory in order to display those files. The odd thing is that Music Player (Muzio) could still display music tracks in the Folder section -- just not in the main sections where it would use the embedded ID3 tags of the music files.

In addition, when I tested that app, I noticed a directory called /AudioBeats (which was another previous name for the app) with a few subfolders related to playlists. I tried adding an mp3 file there, but it still wouldn't show up. Since /AudioBeats was clearly created by the app, I figured it should've worked, so I wonder if that indicates more of a bug on their side.

I emailed the dev but they were never very responsive. I might have to switch player apps. The only reason I liked that one was due to playlist management, such as backing them up as actual files that I could then restore say on a new phone or something. But now I can't so I must switch.

Re: unable to see music files/folders in music player apps

having the same situation with pulsar+ and folder music player pro. (I love folder based music players) - At one time they worked fine now they display only partial listings of my music folder located on my sd card. Other music players like musicolet and power amp had no problem. And since I paid for these two apps I wasn't gonna give up on trying to figure out the solution to this problem. So I pushed them to the side until I could figure something out using my limited computer skills. Every few days i would check on those apps to see if the problem would happily go away on it's own. In the interim I would research the web and see if I find something in all the recommendations that would solve this mind frustrating problem. Here it what I did to solve this particular situation because now every music app virtually instantly displays my music folder and all of the sub folders just like that. After seeing an error message in windows popping up whenever I did a batch procedure on my music files folder that I keep in sync with the one on my android. The error message had to do with file attributes, in my case it popped up whenever I deleted a temp work folder with a copy of some of my music files. The delete operation would halt with the error message 'could not delete hidden system file'. When it finally dawned on me here is what I did. It's a pain in the butt but it worked in this case! Sync a copy of your entire music folder to your computer. I use freefilesync to make an exact copy of my music folder to my computer. It may take some time but this utility makes it go faster. I have a music library of only 2700 songs. After the file sync op is done disconnect your phone. Next I used a utility called attribute changer. Next select every last folder or file in the music folder you just sync. Next right click and you should see attribute changer. Open the program and remove every file attribute and the program will do just the en-mass. It might be a good idea to reboot your phone, then reconnect it to your computer. Next select the root sync folder and use the regular windows copy function. Next navigate to the root of your phone where your music folder is located and do a paste. Windows will warn you that you are copying to a folder with the same name and do you want to proceed. Before you click yes make sure you check the 'do this for all files' check box then say yes. Next wait for the op to finish. If you get a message saying something like 'the file already exists in the target folder' and do you want to overwrite the file, say yes but make sure you check 'do this for all files'. The copy should proceed til finished. I recommend a reboot. After I took all these steps I went straight to the misbehaving apps and they both instantly displayed every music folder and file I had, all 2700 of them! All was well in app land - for now!:)
