Unable to Share News Article to any Gmail Account

When I use my Pixel 7 Pro to share a news article from Google News to my gmail address (or to other gmail addresses for that matter) and then go to Google Drive, I can see that the share function works, because I can see the title of what I shared. I then tap the title and the link displays, but tapping the link does nothing and I can't read the news article that I shared with myself. If I share the article to my personal, non-gmail account, then I can read it.

The same thing happens if I share the article to another gmail account. The link appears but tapping it does nothing and the recipient cannot read what I shared with him.

What am I doing wrong?

Here's what I did:
1. I opened a news article on my Pixel 7 Pro.
2. I tapped the Share icon that appeared at the bottom of the screen.
3. I shared it to my Gmail account by tapping as shown below.

4. I opened my Gmail account. The Inbox was empty.
5. Following the above steps, I shared it to my non-Gmail account.
6. I opened my non-Gmail account and there it was.

Hope this helps!

And why are you tapping that particular icon? I would think you would just tap the Gmail icon. Sorry if I'm confused LOL also maybe clear the default on the Google News app and then clear the cache

It's been 2-1/2 hours since I shared that news item to my Gmail account. It finally arrived, but I don't know how long it took. What I received is a link which, when tapped, brought up the news item.
I tapped that icon because I thought it led to my Gmail account, and apparently it does. That icon was put there by the Pixel powers that be, as a "suggestion".
I guess I haven't learned to be patient enough with cellphone sharing, what with all the users sharing, exchanging, swapping, etc. all kinds of stuff, it takes a lot of time.
But it did finally arrive, so I'm happy-happy!

Ah gotcha . So that share icon you tapped looks to be folder related to your Google Drive. And your Drive should have the link saved there which can be viewed on any device logged into Drive. Now if I was sharing it to another email I would pick the Gmail app and send to email address intended which should be faster I would think

My head is a bit fuzzy now, but IIRC I could not select my Contacts list after I tapped the Share icon. I could only select from the suggested contacts, so I had to choose one of those. I don't know why I couldn't get to my Contact list.

I don't show my contact list as an option when I hit the share button, I think it remembers a contact that you've shared with previously and that will be on like the top row. Then you have other apps underneath that are suggested. You can also hit more on the far right and when you go into that area there is a pencil on the upper right hand corner where you could decide which apps you want to show for sharing there but I don't see contact list on my Samsung phone
