"Unable to use fingerprints"

Nine times out of ten, when I'm unlocking my phone, I get this message, forcing me to unlock with my pattern code. I've reset my fingerprints twice but this is still happening. Pretty annoying...is the scanner buggy or am I missing some other solution?

That should only happen when you reboot the phone. Ive never had that happens any other time. You're phones not rebooting right?
